OP, did Toyota provide you with a free loaner while your trucks in the shop? Thanks for the updates, looking forward to what they find.

Understood. Nothing mechanical is guaranteed to be free from production errors.

That said. I have started to notice some dealers starting to do some better discounting. Waiting for prices to be a bit more realistic. That more than anything is why I will wait a bit.

They offered me a free loaner but I didn't take it. I have a company truck so the loaner would have just sat in the driveway. Offered a new forerunner. Probably should have taken it just for principle but didn't.

Stopped by the dealership today and just missed the field and design engineers. The service manager was in the office ordering the parts that the engineers requested. They went over the truck with a fine tooth comb and couldn't replicate the truck shutting down. Go figure. Pulled all the codes and still couldn't find the source so they are replacing the complete fuse box and connections, replacing the wiring harness and some other parts in the electrical system. They didn't want to take a chance on trying to make repairs and not address the problem so they felt replacement of these parts was the better option. I will post up with the actual repairs when I get a detailed copy of the work. Still about seven to ten days out from having my truck is my guess.

Holey flapjacks batman .... 7 to 10 days more without your truck? Wow you are patient ... that is crazy ... is your truck special ordered? Funny they didn't just get you a replacement or a free warranty package.

I'm pretty patient with things. Doesn't do a whole lot of good to get all bent out of shape. Not a special order. I went in for an oil change and alignment on my 2013 TRD and came out with the 2016. It was just sitting on the lot and I got sucked in by the magic. The replacement parts aren't laying around. They have to order them and pull them from the production line. The service mgr said they should have it done in by next week but I'm putting my money on the following week.:fingerscrossed:

Well I am sure they will do it right, and when you get it back it will be smooth sailing. I had a 2002 Ford Explorer 4x4 that spent 2 months back and forth at the shop until they got it right. Please keep us posted

And what do you like better specifically more than the Colorado that you traded in? Fit and finish, performance, interior ergonomics? Please tell.

I'm holding off on buying if at all because I feel the Tacoma was rushed to compete with the Twins. It really seems the QA cycle was missed.

To many sporadic issues. No consistent problems across the board that would indicate a line assembly issue. Everything is all over the board with different folks having different problems to some degree. It really appears the rush was at the expense of QA.

Best thing to do now is just wait. There plenty on here with no issues, but the way things are going, this is the first time you really don't know where Toyotas reliability will be in 10 years.

Good thing though, Toyota will work to rectify it quickly. Or maybe it's the "our owners are so loyal, they'll buy it any ways attitude" that motivates them to keep doing what ever they want with this truck and ignoring previous owners.

Not sure what you are really referring to. The only systemic failure seems to be the hood/glue separation (easy fix). There are a few people who had BSM problems.

The tranny/shifting concerns are all about personal preference--it is doing what it is supposed to do. Nobody is unable to go as fast as they want when they want.

There are a few clearly isolated cases of total shutdown, leaky transfer case, and a couple of others.

I'm not saying there aren't problems, but these blanket statements that stuff is falling apart left and right and QA isn't up to par aren't really backed by evidence.

No. Mine runs like a sewing machine. And the door seals don't leak either. :)
