I've been looking into for a while because a few of the surf spots I go to in Baja require more fuel than my tank can carry....hence my jerry can question yesterday. The extra 5 gallons is a necessity for me. The other one you mentioned I believe is the same one that someone had a thread about on TW a couple years ago, it sat in the OE location but hung down quite a bit more which brought up clearance concerns.

Mounting a larger fuel cell under the bed is not difficult at all, you just have to have someone machine an adapter to reuse the stock sending unit and replumb the evap stuff. There are a few universal fuel cells on Summit Racing that would fit. I just finished a 3 link set up on my truck and plating the frame etc so the tank is next on my wish list.

The advantage of Solo's is that it is taco specific and tapered to maintain decent departure angle. A boat company somewhere out here builds them for them.

Edit - you're in Vegas so no CARB worries or OE sending unit issues for inspection ?

I picked up a few of the Scepter MFC's late this summer. I barely made it between towns before the supercharger and a lot of the smaller gas stations along the highway don't have 91, so I need to pack a lot of extra fuel with me.

The cans seem to be very good quality.. but all of mine leak. I checked the gaskets and they appear to be the correct ones and flanges are in good condition so I think I might not be tightening them enough? They seem pretty tight, but perhaps they need to be guerrilla tight.

I've read that scepter has two gaskets they use, one for diesel and one for gas (which sounds like it also works for diesel). I've also read that if you use the diesel ones with gas the gaskets can swell and crack the flanges on the cap. I've verified that the gaskets I have are indeed the ones for gas and that my flanges are okay (I bought these brand new too). Anyone have a solution for me to try, other than putting them on tighter?

I have several Scepter MWCs (which use a different gasket), and they have to be quite tight to not leak.

Have you considered a cap wrench? Several companies sell them - I've seen it at LexingtonContainerCompany.com

Buy a MFC cap wrench. They sell them for the MWC too.

I have a couple MWC's as well. The MFC's use a different cap (and different wrench), but I might pick up one of the cap wrenches next time I'm near a retailer.

Heading south next week for Christmas. If I can't get them tight enough on my long drive down, I'll be near a store that sells the cap wrenches. :)

I've had problems with internal pressure build up causing leaking. Like if you fill them up on a cool morning, then they sit in the sun sloshing around all day they swell. Also major elevation changes add to the expansion and internal pressure. Maybe they need a blow off valve or something.

I screwed up and let a good deal get past me. Friend used to drive into Canada monthly and would always bring a truck bed full of them back with him and sell them here in the states. Offered to get me some multiple times but figured that I'd be able to get some from him "later on." Just found out that his company transferred him to New Zealand last month.

    Bugga'.

hmmm I should keep this in mind if I travel to the US with the work van, carry a few extra empty fuel cans, then send them from US locations to US customers.

That's exactly where I was thinking. I bought the cans there last time I was in that corner of the province.

Yeah, unfortunately I misread the specs on the Yeti 150 prior to purchasing. The 110V inverter is only rated for 0.7 amps and I misread it as 7 amps so it's breaker trips when I use my dual battery charger. It's still a great product, it just isn't capable of doing what I wanted which was charging my Dewalt batteries in remote areas. I've been charging them off my truck and hooking my Escape 30 solar panel up to the truck battery. It's worked well so far but I know the panel isn't keeping up with what the charger is draining.

I have 6 Scepter MFCs for emergency fuel storage and camping. They are stored outside and experience wide temperature swings. I've been using a cap wrench and have never had an issue with them leaking or 'venting' when they're not supposed to. Supposedly they're made to swell and contract and it won't damage them but I release pressure every other month or so.

I also have 6 MWCs and have ordered accessories for the MWCs and MFCs from JAGMTE. I think he's the actual supplier of the cap wrenches that most places sell. I've been extremely happy with everything I've ordered from him.

The portable solar industry in general has a pretty loose definition of generator. It keeps our phones and radios charged during prolonged power outages though which is another big reason I bought it. I also bought a couple of their LED lights and they're great for camping.

    Still happy with the product.

Absolutely love how quiet those things are. We use them on some of our job sites and if there's anything at all going on you can't even hear the generator to know if it's on.

Not to start the metal vs. plastic can debate, someone has recently come out with a CARB legal spout for the metal jerry cans, so good quality new ones are now easier to find.

The metal ones also build pressure and swell, but don't swell as much as the plastic ones. Either way, I am sure both containers were designed to compress and swell.

Whatever you do, do NOT have your face near the opening when you open a container that is swelled (under pressure). Gasoline is not something you want sprayed on your face.
