Terrible Fuel Mileage

    Nothing hard about it. Though lots seem to get it wrong somehow.

    These 21/22mpg's were assuredly at 75mph with a tailwind. These "tallest" tanks were on the interstate in the summer time. The lowest tanks were winter city driving. I was driving on 245-75-16 MS2's at the time.

    On my current driver, 2014 taco, I just increased my mileage 1-2mpg by bumping tire pressure from 32 to 36. Also driving on 245-75-16's (stock suspension).

    Absolutely flat tread and it really doesn't change THAT much via a little bit of weight. if you want to try it try taking anything you can out of the truck and see how much it actually changes your mileage.

    I think you need a bigger motor or to check your brakes cause you have something wrong lol I cant get 13 mpg unless I tow 10k lbs

    Does going to synthetic oil in diffs really help that much? If it does thats next on the shopping list! For me, over all the easiest mod came from just removing the carbon filter. I never thought about that until my next door neighbor who also has a 2006 black Pre-runner brought it up. Said he did it and it helped, so I tried it. It did. If you count the guy about 5 doors down (which I have never talked to, he kinda sucks) we have 3 2nd gen black Tacomas with 3" lift on this block. LOL! (got a silver one too, but can't blame him for that, lol)

    I got a consistent 1 mpg gain when I switched over to Amsoil 75W-90. Had to do it at 30K anyways and the truck felt smoother on the butt dyno. :thumbsup:

    Dispite what people claim there is no mpg gain to be had by removing the carbon filter.

    And there is no way switching to synthetic gear lube will get a 1 mpg increase. Possibly better protection but 1 mpg is a lot, convention vs synthetic just isn't all that great.

    My 13' double cab 4.0 with 6 speed MT with mixed driving is 17mpg with stock 245/75 R16. At 70mph my RPM's are 2500 plus! And I drop from 17-18 to 15 from 60 to 70 mph. Gearing is very bad for highway use but 0 to 60 is great. The 400 RPM's between shifting is very low I think comparing to all my other MT I have owned. 6th could have been 800 for freeway driving at least

    Mine is an auto but I'd have to be curious- on a 6 mt taco does a taller tire have a POSITIVE effect on mpg? Lower overall gearing- just curious.

    Depending on the tire it does lower the RPM's by 300 going to a 285/75 16 vs the 245/75 16. I'll find out in the spring :)

    Don't need a bigger engine. Stock with a shell. Only 3K miles on a 2015. Coming from a 2002 2.7 I'm trying to keep RPMs low. Driving like an old lady. Maybe there is something wrong.

    dont drive like an old lady but keep the rpms under 2k while accelerating

    99% stock daily driver
    Mine's a 2006 v6 naturally aspirated, mpg estimates are lower for that year than newer years depending on where you look. The reciepts are for the tanks before and after I changed the air filter, cleaned the MAF, and cleaned the throttle body, with very little difference in driving. 16.817 mpg to 19.17 mpg. My air filter really wasn't super dirty (replaced it anyways), I saw no clumps on the MAF, but the throttle body (valve and all around it) was covered in carbon residue.

    Wow I wish! $0.804/litre CAD here in Alberta. That's $2.21/Gallon USD. And thats cheap right now for us. In September I was paying $2.60/gallon. I have a really short drive to work and my last tank I got 14.9mpg. Defrosting and the short trip really kill my mileage. Best tank I've had was 19.6mpg which was still during the summer and going 100kph on flat road. Totally stock '15 ACLB V6.
