Help! Can't get my new truck

Well, here's the story. I went into my dealer August 30th, to order a dclb off road, with tech/JBL, inferno. They tell me they can put the order in, in a few days. They call me back later the next week, telling me they can only get the sport in the long bed, and I may have to wait till either September 22, or October 5 (their allocation days). So, I patiently wait it out till the 22nd, they try to change their allocation to my truck, and it gets turned down by the system. I'm in Michigan, apparently there are only 3% allocations for the dclb off road...thank you Toyota! Dealer tells me, they ordered my truck in a short bed, just in case I wanted that when it comes in, but I really want a long bed (although it will be very tempting).

So, I can wait until the October allocation on the 5th, and likely go through the the same denial, as I imagine the trucks will only become harder to secure, as demand increases. I can't even build the truck in my region anymore, but I can in Arizona. The question is, does anyone know of a particular strategy to take when trying to get the desired model? Who gets dibs on that 3% allocation? Is it first come, first serve? Does the dealer need to put the change in first thing in the morning on the 5th, to get a better chance? Can they trade with another region?

I'm just getting frustrated at this point that if I want a dclb, I may have to wait till Spring or later for delivery, which would really suck. I really don't want to have to "settle" for a sport, or short bed. Any advice or knowledge here, from those with experience, would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Whatever you do...DON'T SETTLE Too much money here to be settling. I initially wanted a Limited but decided it is a valid second choice because I like Leather but prefer the Sport suspension. IN other words I would be happy with either...You seem to be making a compromise because for time......remember time flies and you selected truck will be available at some point.

You might consider cars.com. It is possible you could find what you want somewhere in the country and negotiate a good deal. Fly to go get it and drive it home.

You may need to go to a different dealer, but you'll definitely need to practice patience. My dealer's inventory manager did turn a DCSB SR5 into a DCLB TRD Sport in the allocation/ordering system for me, but it took a few weeks to get approval and even longer to get a build date. Started process in mid-August, but won't get truck until right before Christmas.

If the inventory manager is willing to keep trying, he/she can pester Toyota (that's what mine did). I still have to wait for the build, but I am getting the truck that I wanted. It took my inventory manager haggling with Toyota - yours may have to do the same thing.

Yeah, the dealer told me they had been in contact with their Toyota rep (whatever that means), and were told dclb is hard to find. It seems like they could pull some strings, if coaxed properly. The thing is, my wife rolled my 2005 taco, and I've been waiting 3 years to replace it! Oh, the agony of waiting!

Find a dealer who can get you what you want. 7568A is one of the hardest to get right now. Everyone wants the new dclb OR but there aren't many being made in any region

    1. find a dealer willing to put in your options for allocations
    2. be willing to wait for when Toyota actually makes your truck to fulfill your allocation request
    3. have the dealer mark that allocation as sold, otherwise it can be swiped from them in pre-allocation

all the above requires big patience to get what you want, if you cant wait, then you will have to settle.

If you can be flexible on color, JBL, etc you might be able to find one that way. Stevinson West in Denver had a tan one available over the weekend. No tech package. I am waiting on my DCLBOR w/JBL ... went through a couple of allocation rounds July and August before they got what I wanted allocated. Took some shenanigans by the dealer to get JBL added after the allocation was made w/out it. I would have done it without it but did want the rest of tech for sure. Cars.com is your friend as is searching dealer inventory region by region on Toyota website.

You could have had mine. I just had to turn down a dclb sport due to lack of jbl. I think longbed is a little harder to get, but jbl can not supply enough systems. I'm stilled bummed. Could have had my truck in a few weeks, but no jbl.

Man this all sucks. My plan was to purchase a DBL Cab 4x4 LB OR fully loaded. From the comments on here looks like I may have to wait toward late spring or early summer to purchase. If that is the case then I may just wait for the 2017's. I hope my 2006 Sport can hold out a little longer. I just had gas pump replaced last month and it cost me some change.

Step back, take a deep breath and wait till spring or next summer. The prices will be more negotiable. It's just a truck. You can get what you want when models become more negotiable,. Tell the dealer you are no longer interested in buyinga truct. Patience. Don't be forced into taking anything you don't want. Waiting for the 2017 would be worthwhile too.

I could be wrong, but I think toyota either made a bunch of limiteds first or underestimated how many would want long box with jbl.

On carid.com there are many limited around the usa. Myself, I need that longbox. I aile toyota and jbl today to ask when supply would get up to speed. Dam, was hoping to have one by mid october. Hope I don't have to wait till Christmas. Hate to get her all salty on the first drive.

I've been waiting for 5 years. Truck paid off. Paid off wife's van. Sold my sportster for mod money. Put down a $1000 refundable deposit.

But, I want that jbl. Just want the sound quality over factory speakers. Even 6x9's with some power sound good. Don't want aftermarket. Been there, done that, advertising for thiefs. I don't need to rattle my neighbors pictures on their walls.

Each dealer is only allocated but so many in each trim/option package. And just because a dealer sends in a request for a specific unit, doesn't mean the manufacturer will approve it. You should talk to a high volume dealership that usually gets more pull with allocation, and has a good relationship with their zone rep. When I ordered my 15 the dealership's rep had to be the one to enter the order since it was an uncommon combination

Gulf States finally has a DCLB TRD Sport available for the region, and it's got nothing else on it but the towing package. Continuing to exercise patience...

Hey OP, your story sounds fishy to me. I put in an order around the end of August for an Inferno TRD Offroad DCSB with a manual. Like others have said, my dealership had to change their allocations but said they would get me the truck I wanted.

I recently got on the build and price webpage and tried to build the truck I ordered... No Go. It wouldn't let me select the manual transmission or Inferno options when I went to build the truck. I gave Toyota a call and explained how I ordered this specific truck and wanted to know why their website wouldn't let me select all of the options that I placed an order for. After the lady put me on hold to go check, she came back to tell me that there were no 6-speed off roads that were going to be allocated to my region. She did say, however, that since I placed an order they would build the truck and send it to my dealership for me.

Going by my dealership's info, and Toyota's direct info, you should be able to get the truck you want... even if it's "unavailable" in your area
