Recycled typically means taken somewhere else for combustion purposes, but yeah, it's better than getting dumped in the storm drain.

What does the manual say? I thought I read 5,000 miles or 6 months for first change? Maybe I'm just imagining that.

First post I've seen from you that I sort of agree with. Although it still has your characteristic "I really want to shit in this thread" thing going on.

#1 Yes ,many people in America are like leaches, unethically sucking entitlements from the hard working tax payers!
#2 As you grow up you will learn that just because you cant see reasoning doesn't mean it doesn't exist . You know u can recycle oil ,right?o_O
    #3 Removes contaminants,fuel,carbon,metal,dirt,water,Ect.........
#4 ReCOCKulous ! If one keeps service records , they are already ahead of the pack towards believable maintenance, receipts being key.
As far as timing goes , early prevention vs timely or even late maintenance shows organization, responsibility, pride of ownership.
Many who perform early engine oil maintenance are likely to perform regular transmission, transfer, differential, and all other aspects of proper vehicle maintenance, Documentation greatly aides in demanding higher resale value :taco:
I will be changing engine oil @ 5,000 mile intervals with Mobil 1 full synthetic now that i'm happy with flushing out break in contaminants , my prerogative-----=
    privilege:wink:

You sound like most Kalifornians. Criticizing America. LOL Most of the self loathing guilt laden elitists don't care for "America.

America bad....everyone else good" That's a NY and Kalifornia thing,

Had mine done at 1250. Five freebies left. Also had them check the torque where necessary. I will have mine done every six months regardless of the mileage.

Not worried about the "environment" My old oil will be recycled.

Moved out of Kalifornia years ago. We don't have any auto emissions or otherwise inspections, mandatory recycling and From my Corvette experience , if people had their oil changed at 1000 miles , that was a good thing and showed the owner actually cared about the vehicle..Quite normal.

But I know first hand how most of the fruits and nuts in Kalifornia think, They soiled up their own back yards with brutally bad air with the Lovely Santa Ana smog winds blowing into San Diego Their two hour 30 mile commutes making the problem worse and yet many, not all, want to share their "wisdom" and tell the rest of the nation how to live, I don't think so. ;)

It is pointless to get the oil changed so soon on these cars. The only cars that require an oil change around 1500 miles (or the break in period) are high performance cars like the BMW M series. Going the full 5k will not cause you any problems.

Whaaaat!!! you have to change the oil????? Very touchy subject. Stop and Go traffic, lots of short trips with engine off and on and environment(dirt roads, sand...) determines your OCI. Todays synthetics can go well beyond 7,500 to 10,000 miles in excellent driving conditions(long hauls, all highway with no major dirt/dust/sand). The manual specs are 10k miles(or 5k miles in dirty conditions). Time limits of "or every 6 months" is just so the companies still get their money (LOL). Weather can be a consideration if you live in extreme conditions. For instance, here in So Cal it is extremely sunny and almost time to wear a sweater. Most extreme.
I typically change the oil in the vehicles every 5k miles for consistency and my own piece of mind.
Note: On my window, the dealership put one of those clear stickies for oil change and says" see you in 5000 miles" so they cant argue that the manual says 10k.

The manual and the dealers here agree at 5,000 for the FIRST change and then 10,000 after that. Based on local fleet ops (fire, leo, rescue) it seems to be typical on newer equipment and oils. This is hard use in steep terrain and a range of weather from below zero to high 90 degree F temps at altitude.

Changed mine at exactly 1096. Had a good bit of "glitter" in the oil filter housing.
Will this engine last longer than one that gets the first one at 5 or 10k? Dunno.
Do I have a little more peace of mind? Absolutely!
I'm glad they went to a cartridge filter. Let's me keep an eye on my Yota's life blood.

I just had my 5k service (oil chg & tire rotation) It wasn't marked on the invoice for tire rotation but they did it. (I marked the oil filter and tires to confirm)

I wonder if someone could be convinced to send an oil sample to a lab at 1000 miles and post the results on Tacoma World. It would be enlightening. Any takers? I am actually at 1000 miles now but I have never analyzed my oil... wouldn't know how.

    Okay CAM37 ... YOU WIN ....

I couldn't let it go ... 10,000 miles till oil change. What has changed from regular old days 3000 miles oil change? Synthetic is better sure, but upon ACTUALLY checking my oil IT looks dirty ... well dirtier.

Asked dealership they said ... 10,000 mile FIRST OIL CHANGE CONFIRMED and every 10,000 there after. I thought what if I am NOT by a dealership at 10,000 miles and go 1,000 miles more? That's 11,000 miles ... Way too long for me.

Would the oil be fine ... probably.

This is my truck ... my baby ...I don't plan on trading her in 2 years, so I need to take care of her.

So I have changed my mind, OIL CHANGE now at 5000 miles ... and then every 5000 miles thereafter.

Cost at dealership was $70.00. My prepaid maintenance plan covers every 10,000 miles. So $700.00 out of pocket for 100,000 miles. Dealership pays for every other one.

I will pay that for a GOOD piece of mind.

Yeah, Sam... I know it's synthetic and we no longer need to change every 3,000 miles but to me, 10,000 is just a bit more than I feel comfy with. 7,000... yep. 8,000, hmmmm, does it look like yours does in your pic? But 10K... nuh uh.

By the way, with my past vehicles, the dealership will do the oil change once you're within 500 miles of the 10K point so you shouldn't have to wait until you hit exactly 10,000 miles to get it done, unless Toyota wants to be irrational.

Personally, I will probably change mine at 2k then the 10k interval thereafter. It isn't going to hurt getting the initial glitter out. Will it really matter much? Probably not.

So true about the newest mechanic. I drove my 2013 Tacoma home from the dealership after one of it's free oil changes and it leaked oil all over my garage. Had to take it back to the dealer. The service manager said the mechanic didn't wipe down the skid plate but I think he didn't tighten down the plug or filter. Now that my free changes have ended, I'm going to do it myself.
