What bulb type do have in the sidemarkers? They look really bright I like it.

 

Technically yesterday, but with some help, I got a chance to get the bed off and coat the frame. I'll see how it holds up, but the KBS 3 step system seems to be well worth the money. To not spam pictures, here's a before and after. This weather was a godsend. I thought I'd go unable to get it done before my first Winter with the truck.





Then today I took care of the inside of the boxed section with the Eastwood internal coater. Odd application. Not doubting it works, but just a little doubt in my application. But even a sub-par application should be better than none at all.

Waiting on a few parts from Toyota. Should be in tomorrow. Main part is the fuel pump gasket. I believe that's the cause of the wetness on the tank/fuel smell as well as the now-gone-for-some-reason CEL code. So until tomorrow, the truck's still apart. Oh and I cleaned off the back of the cab and front of the bed. It's impressive how dirty they get.

 

Hopefully there's tires in the near future too.. And I thought mine were bald. What's the application process for the Eastwood coater??

 

Looks good, did you wire wheel any of it? Or use a needle scaler? Also did you tap around and check for firmness?

 

Yeah they are all pretty bad, but the rears are awful. Especially that passenger side. Not only are the tires past due, but the PO had them inflated to 40PSI all around, so the centers are basically smooth. I have new tires on the way. Should be here today or tomorrow. But due to bed off, I'll get them put on tomorrow either way.

It's a rattle can with a thin, flexible/maneuverable hose that hooks on to the top. Then you put it inside access/drainage holes in the frame and blindly spray away.

Not quite a wire wheel, but a thick wire brush attachment for a drill, as well as 320 grit sandpaper (per KBS instructions). Yeah I've already gone up and down the frame with a hammer. Once before buying and once since.

 

Just some LED 194s from Super Bright LEDs. They are brighter than stock but the picture makes them look a lot brighter than they are

 

My tires looked the exact same way lol, and they got me from western Washington to wyoming..I have to get off my lazy ass and do that to my frame before I ship her to Hawaii. Cancer happens at grossly accelerated rates there..just pick a hole, hit the trigger, and flop the hose around ey? sounds like a good time..where did you buy the stuff? Online or parts store?

 

This is the first time the transmission had been opened on mine. I spent an hour scraping the old sealant off (new kits have a proper gasket) The filter probably could have gone without changing, but what was most in need of cleaning were the three magnets in the pan. Each was double it's original size with metallic paste that had been accumulated.

 

It's too easy to put things off. I'm making a point of not doing so with this vehicle. I'd have gotten tires already, but funds aren't there because, ya know, just bought a truck. But at least I will appreciate the feel of new tires, since these ones are so bad. But you gotta get new tires! Assuming you've got the funds, get on it ASAP. It puts you and others at risk by driving around on wasted tires.
Not surprised. The whole state is islands, and none are overly large. Chances are, you'll be near salty sea air. That's arguably worse than snow/salt/brine in Winter because you can't just wash it off to help avoid damage.
Yeah basically. The idea is to stick the hose in a bit and then spray as you pull it out. I got it online. I believe Amazon.

Yea I got new tires once I mad it to Wyoming.. I just got the GY duratrac authority from Walmart to hold me over until I did the lift and bigger tires,thinking they'd wear out quick, but they're actually wearing pretty damn good. They've been a pleasant surprise. Thanks for the info on the coating, I've gotta get on that.

 

The good news is rusting isn't much if a problem in wy. Don't use salt on the roads. And it's very very dry. Most rust there is just surface rust and takes way way longer to develop into anything remotely bad.

 

The new 4x4 tranny I got is leaking right now so I know I'm going to have to reseal it. So the kit does come with a gasket and you don't have to use a silicone of some sort. Good to know. Thanks for the info!

 

In my experience, even cheapo tires are leagues better than tires like what I'm running on now.

I envy states that are dry and go without salting. Oh what a peace of mind that must be.

 

So I finally figured out how to drop the spare. I guess the lock is in place? I had to use the key tool. I don't mind using it, but I just wish I knew I had to. The spare appears to have never been used. Still have the SPARE sticker (though the E is torn off, so it's my spar tire). It was at 15 PSI, so I filled it. Not much else I can do with the truck until tomorrow.

 

Unless the rust is directly caused by the sliders being welded on, you're fine. I'd love to see a dealer try to blame the sliders for rust by the spring hangers when there are 10s of thousands that didn't have sliders and rusted in the same spot lol.

As far as cutting your xmember, you should be fine. They wont do any fab work, so as long as you kept your stock stuff just throw it in the bed, they'll put it on, then you'll have to have the xmember welded back on.

 

Well I don't have a stock rear bumper anymore and I threw away the push bar/crush boxes because they wouldn't even mount back up to where the crossmember was welded on. So I'll likely drive it to the dealership with no front or rear bumper, skids, sliders, or tool box. Again this is provided Toyota says yes they will replace.

Last night I had to drive my truck into water that was ~1 foot deep to jump a tractor, after that I went and drove the streets to see which ones were flooded from the high tide, deepest water I found was ~18".
