Just by observation, I see way more DCs than ACs. I know the Manual tranny vs Auto is frequently the determining reason. That's fine Don't need to justify (though feel free to offer if you feel compelled), I'm just curious of the raw ratio of DCs to ACs. Thanks.

I'd like to know the "genius" in corporate who decided to not offer the TRD OR AC 4x4 without a manual option in the USA. If they make it for the Canadian market, why not the US?

Unfortunately Toyota is going away from its roots, I'd bet when I bought my '96, 3/28's of the trucks were auto and the rest manual.

I have my Manual AC Sport on allocation order now, as its possible Toyota will just kill the manual all together for the USA market in the very near future :( I'm getting it while the getting is good. :burnrubber:

they're doing it for a reason. 90% of todays lazy America prefers automatic transmissions... its evident with every single brand. Hell, even semi trucks are starting to head to automatics.

Double cab, my 99 Taco was an access cab and it was a royal pain in the butt to get anyone back there, plus the jump seats were oriented sideways not forward-facing.

At first I wanted a DC with MT, but then discovered I barely fit in the Tacoma. I don't really have the room to manipulate a MT in based on where the steering wheel sits at its max height adjustment. I'll leave the manual for my other car. So then I was deciding between AC or DC with AT, and although I would like the AC to lie down in and make into an "adventuremobile" with a camper cover, the real seats of the DC are a huge pull. I have a dog that likes to sit in the front seat, but on long road trips, it would be really nice to throw a dog bed in the back so she can sleep and be comfortable. I pretty much will just use the DC's bed for mountain bikes and occasionally moving things or hauling deer/boar carcasses.

After 8 years of an access cab I needed to upgrade to the double cab to better fit a car seat and family.

Although IMO the access cab looks better and the longer bed does not increase the length of the truck, I have to go with the Double Cab. The rear doors are easy open when rolling a cart full of stuff to out in the back. The AC requires one to open both doors and push the cart way up front of the truck and try to juggle the cart/doors. There is not enough room in the back for much.

I keep my backseats down 99% of the time and carry my goods and anything I can in the truck.

I chose the double Cab even though it looks like a Camel with the hump of the DC centered on the truck

That is a pain, I have to admit. Since I've owned an AC since 2007, I've just gotten used to the grocery cart shuffle (thank god for those smaller carts). I'm single, so hauling groceries isn't the major deal it would be for a family. I can see where having a family and shopping for one would necessitate the larger cab.I suppose that's why 4 of 5 Tacomas you see are DC.

its got nothing to do with fitness. people need to be able to text, apply make up, read the newspaper, check stock quotes, change channels on the xm radio, set up netflix for their asshole kids in the back seat, eat a big mac, and still detect vibrations in their brand new trucks. hard to do all that while manually shifting a transmission.

of course they did. but thats not why manual transmissions are disappearing in America, in general.

I would have liked to have smart key, but I liked the way the MT drove better over the AT.

Just for reference though, my MT truck still has navigation, XM, entune, a moonroof, and a very nice, quiet cabin. Having a MT doesnt change my enjoyment of any of those things.

I don't know it's "lazy America", some of us drive almost exclusively in traffic. An auto is better suited to that (IMO). I've owned manuals since moving to Fort Worth and I gotta say, as much fun as it to drive a manual, that fun ends when you're sitting in rush hour (or 2 or 3 around here sometimes) - real fast!

man you guys get real butthurt over one comment lol.

yes manual transmissions suck in rush hour traffic.

so @Scooter62 do you think customers with bad knees are why toyota produces 90% of tacomas with automatics?

    Who's bashing who bud?

Apparently politically correct America means someone isn't entitled to share their opinion, let alone have one. Why does someone have to automatically get defensive when an opinion is shared that isn't the same as theirs?

But to get back on topic, I would have preferred a DCLB. I placed an order for one and had a build date of 11/25. I saw this nice MGM DCSB 6MT roll in to where I work, and thought damn thats nice. Not exactly what I wanted but still nice. I drove it and fell in love, so I bought that and abandoned my ordered truck.

My preferred setup would have been a DCLB 6MT TRDOR, and installed a Sport hood on it. But you can't get a 6MT in a long bed, so I compromised. Despite compromising, I am not disappointed.

Access cabs, like manual transmissions, definitely seem to me in the minority, but I expect to see more of them now that the regular cab is dead.
