The cantilever front suspension is garbage. The levers are designed to be plush on upstroke and then have zero rebound to push the wheels back down. It is a horrible design. They were also sued by Traxxas for using the design without Traxxas's approval

I was just researching that. I also noticed the zero damping at the hobby shop on rebound and assumed it was just needing an adjustment. I'll have to think on this some more.

the stroke of the shocks is incredibly short! They probably fill them with 50 weight and their smallest valving but the stroke is so short that is doesn't do anything. It probably needs some 10k diff fluid in those things to make it work well. But then they would rebound even less! I have all the stock front suspension parts and extras if you are interested in it. It's got all the parts to be a viable rock racer

The rear suspension is incredible, though. they really did well on the back half of it

I've got a twin hammers. absolutely love it.

there are aftermarket mounts for the front that allow you to run vertical shocks. negligible increase in travel, but it'll keep up with the rear suspension a lot better.

You have a few pennies in that model don't you. :p Very tempting with the upgrades you have done.

So the stock front shock setup is crap and I can plan on changing it. Good to know.

Let me ask this, is the build kit with the offered metal upgrades worth it or should I just go with the RTR knowing that more will need upgraded anyway?

The included upgrades in the kit are metal tranny gears, tougher outdrives, aluminum wheel hex's, Super Swamper Tires, front locker and prolly some more miscellaneous things.

I'm replacing my old transmitter too, so the RTR version has some appeal coming with a DX4C.
I was planning on buying the DX4C separately with the build kit if I went that way, along with electronics and whatnot.

The kit stuff isn't that great and what you want to replace comes plastic in the kit like links and other stuff. What tires does the kit come with?

those swampers in the kit are a tighter spacing than the Proline swampers. They don't look too good

Marketing strategy mainly but Super Swamper tires on the kit
    [IMG]

    along with metal transmission gears
12mm metal wheel hexes as I understand the plastic hex's strip out fairly quick
    Heavy duty outdrives
front locker, which I really don't want, I want it to steer.
front and rear swaybars, which may not be needed, but they come with it.

    full list here.

Have you also looked at the thunder tiger jackal? I haven't read much up on it but from a few videos I saw it looked pretty cool

So the parts that need upgraded aren't necessarily the upgrade parts they send with the kit.
So maybe I might be better off buying RTR, comes with the TX upgrade that I need, and then strip off the parts that need replacing. Sounds like from what I have read it's mainly the wheel hexes, and from you guys the front shock setup, and possibly the transmission gears for a brushless application. Those BM trailing arms look nice too.
now I'm swimming in mental confusion.

or if I look at it from a $$$ point of view..

Build it your self kit with some upgrades...$249.99
    DX4C with SR410...$99.99
3300kv brushless system with ESC on 3S...$109.99
    Blue monkey shock tower...$34.99
shocks...??? depends on brand I guess, say $35.00 for shits.

$529.66 and I can run it that way for a bit before boredom/mod bug sets in

Or RTR, base model with DX4C...$399.99
    Basic upgrades to start
    Metal Wheel hex's...$5.99
    BM shock tower...$34.99
    Shocks again...$35.00

    $475.97
Bored with brushed motor and 2S lipo after a week...add $109.99 for brushless
    now up to $585.99
and then change the plastic gears out for metal...whatever cost that is.

and then try to get rid of the stuff I'm not using.
I think I answered my own question.

but I want to build it, that's more fun for me than actually running it. :D
Plus I need a new radio.
You do have a great deal with that model. Stop tempting me.:p (still debating)

I'll take it all apart for you... and you could almost build a second with all my spare parts...
