If you are in Socal, to to longo toyota and talk with Steven Hess. $700 off mrsp. 0 down 36month lease should be in the $400 range.

We're not a commissioned car dealership and most economy-level car dealerships lose money on new cars. The service department makes a vast majority of the profit for the dealership, so we need to sell new cars to get service clientele (hence why ToyotaCare exists to get people familiar with service while maintenance is free). Finance is a much smaller portion of the overall profit for the dealership, but helps nonetheless. In order to sell new cars competitively (Camry and Corolla way below invoice), we need to sell used cars at a profit. There isn't any meat on the bone these days with all the information customers have and the competition we have with other Toyota dealerships. Nobody is paying sticker on a Camry. So long as my used car manager makes $500 on a car, he's happy.

In So Cal they're just adding a mark up, it's not even add ons. DCH Toyota in Torrance wouldn't negotiate it at all and demanded a 5k mark up over MSRP on an SR5 with just factory equipment. Carson Toyota wouldn't negotiate less than 3k.

Back end should be $1000 a car, I don't care what market you're in. And your salespeople should be able to hold money on trades. If the new car dept is losing money, the staff just isn't doing a good job. No excuse. I've worked at a small (30 new cars a month, 20 used cars a month) store. The owner said almost the exact thing to me. We were able to turn it around in 3 months. I can't imagine it working without commission pay though.

Oh, I did. As soon as they said they're not going to sell any trucks without the mark up I said good luck and walked. I told them if they ever seriously wanted to sell me a truck we could start negotiations at MSRP and go from there. They've tried contacting me a few times since and my first question is always about the mark up. If they still have it, I tell them have a nice day but don't contact me until it's gone.

The warranties are where I get ticked off too. I was talked into oil changes when I bought our
Camry. Maybe I got a deal... maybe I didn't. A mistake I will NOT make again

Use this indeed. My dealer I got this one from since I moved back home asked if I wanted the extended. I simply told him no, he said ok no problem. I'm not going to try and sell you on something you don't want. Easy enough for that one. I've had dealerships sit and try and get you to buy it for 10-15 minutes before finally moving on.

The warranties didn't tick me off it was their "fuk you once we've sold the
    vehicle
" attitude this place has. Dealers like Haley Toyota really shit on the
    buying experience.
