There is 2002 Tacoma 4x4 double cab for sale at my local Toyota dealer. It has 360k miles they want $9k for it. I feel like that's high. I don't know alot about these trucks haven't been a member to long and I've never owned one I just want one. Is that to many miles to purchase as a daily driver? I know the frame is an issue but are there any others? Add said it's passed their 160 point inspection but I'm going to look at it tomorrow was just wondering if it's worth my time thanks for any info

One can never have too many light bars.
9K seems like too much even if it passed inspection. Those inspections don't take into account what the inside of the engine /transmission looks like. I say offer 5K and don't buy for a penny more than 6k. Even then 360K is quite the risk depending on the previous owner(s). Also check the last time the timing belt has been replaced.

Very high in price. There is a 2002 DCSB TRD with 136K on it here in MD for $10,500. Check the frame with great detail for frame rot. Also, ask if at the price does it include a hand job. May or may not be worth it.

i wouldn't risk it,you have no idea how the inside of that engine looks like, its a 4x4 so you also need to take in to consideration how and where those miles were driven.

It's amazing to me to hear of a dealer even having something like this on their lot.

At that price they must have about a buck three fifty into it. I pity the fool (q Mr T voice) that traded that baby in.

And never forget. It's current price is marked up handily so they can 'give' someone a nice allowance for a steaming pile trade in. I mean a cash buyer should easily get $2-3k off the asking just because they make an appearance.

It could be a great truck, at a much lower price, IF it's been well cared for and IF the buyer has an above average DIY capability. Just in case.

to put this into perspective. In october I sold an 05 double cab trd offroad 4x4 with 191k. It was what i would call rough condition. I sold it for 9.5k. Private sale. That was 1k under rough trade in. The highest offer i could get from a dealer was 7.8k.

So, id keep looking and dont take the risk

I think I'm gonna go drive it just to drive it. And see what they say I can't really handle a catastrophic failure financially so I would be rolling the dice pretty bad I think

I'd pass. My personal limit on a used vehicle, especially from a dealer, would probably be 150k miles.

Compression test, including wet/dry and leakdown is a must

Boroscope view into each cylinder will give some hint as well

Would be nice if the most recent oil change had a few hundred miles on it, send to lab for analysis

You can learn an awful lot just from those 3 items.

Not advocating a purchase. Just steps that are pretty practical and should be routine as part of any pre purchase inspection you have done on any vehicle over 100k or so.

I agree look elsewhere. You can find a way better deal looking around on Craig's and Fleebay. That dealer is smoking crack trying to get $9k with a wore out rig.
