OP thanks for posting this. As embarrassing as it may be you've most likely saved another member from doing the same thing. I know I learned something here.

Practicing with it is a must. Grind the paint off, lube it up and practice. A hi-lift can kill you if you're not paying attention.

I for sure kept my body out of the path of the handle. I watched that video above prior to using it.

Really? You don't have a non-camera handle you want to get rid of per chance?

I relocated my camera to the tire swinger. I left the Pop Lock in because it has a plug for the camera hole. Now I'm about to look for a regular handle.

These tailgates are pretty whimpy. You should've seen the dent prior to me popping it out some. I wasn't really in the picture taking mood quite yet at that point though...

I wonder what it would've looked like had I not had a tailgate skin on it.

nah, I am a redneck at heart, so I just drilled out the existing passenger side bolt that holds the tailgate handle on, trimmed down the plastic at the back, inserted the threaded camera base mount and used it to secure the tailgate handle. Works well....I suspect if I yanked hard enough the tailgate handle would pull out but it was a cheap camera and I have no intention of yanking that hard. :D

I was watching a video on this the other day. Seems like a sound investment.
