Huh? I'm confused. I could care less what intake anyone puts on their truck. It's definitely not hurting anything... If it's a metal pipe with a cone filter on the end of it I can sure as shit guarantee you your iat's aren't gonna drop. But who cares? Where's the vomited bad info? If you've had good luck that's awesome. I've used them. They sound cool, look cool under the hood. My K&N showed HIGHER intake temp compared to stock. All I'm sayin.

I bought one to do my own testing even tho they are pieces of shit, the intake temps on the plastic tubed one had ZERO temp changes at approx 40 mph.... same for stock....urd....afe.....and volant, they all draw ambient temp air. u cannot beat that with out an ice box

I'm gonna build a PVC tube that runs through the firewall and attaches firmly to the passenger side AC vent. Then replace my fan switch with one that goes to 11. See where I'm headed??

Did the hood struts clear the TRD? I'm wondering if they will work with the AFE that I want

What about the K&N or any CAI would cause the engine to be louder? I guess I need a quick mechanical/physics lesson.

the size, shape, and boxiness of the intake assemblies on modern vehicles is designed to

    1) meter and deliver air to the engine, and

    2) it is shape designed to reduce noise

changing it from stock usually increases noise, but not always. it depends on size/shape/baffling...etc.

Stock air box with a K&N filter. When I first purchase my K&N's I pat them with a rag to remove any excess oil as they seem to come with too much these days right out of the box. I wash / re-oil it around every 5 - 7k miles.

Thanks for the explanation. So by design the baffles are meant to reduce engine noise, but as a byproduct also decrease airflow. Swapping to aftermarket means no baffles, more air. Got it.

Also - most of what people are referring to is actually "intake noise". All that air being sucked into the engine makes a lot of racket, so manufacturers try to reduce it to make their cars quieter, which is what the general public desires.
