I use the suction mount by the drivers A-pillar. Down at the fuse box I added in a "Add a circuit fuse tap" and added a cigarette plug down there. Ran the stock cable up behind the dash and out the A-pillar by the GPS. I had to use my stock wire as that contains the receiver for traffic updates.

It is very easy to see here, no wires running all over the dash, very easy to remove for storage, and a quick install.

I have a Garmin and I like the lower mounting points, I hate things in my field of vision. WP_20150609_001.jpg

Found that the 6" Garmin didn't fit so well on the A pillar, so moved the inReach over there. Nice thing about the Ram mounts, you can move stuff around as your needs change.

USGS 24K. Is that downloadable into the Garmin?

    Hows your reception down there?

I have yet to run into any issue except in parking garages.
I have the cord/antenna running up behind where the Glove compartment is.

Pretty sure they offer both the microSD and downloadable versions. The internal memory fills up pretty quickly on these things so I use the cards.

It definitely is dependent on unit size as well as the driver. But I have a 6" Garmin there and it fits great. I run the stubby RAM arm with it though. If my hand was another size up I might just make contact with my knuckles but in my current setup, no issues. I like that I can just use my left hand and operate the touch screen on the fly too with both hands still on the wheel, though I only ever do that on occasion, and usually find Google is a more reliable source for traffic info. Garmin traffic sucks ass.

They are also available on DVD for regional areas. Downloadable version is locked to a single device and the other 2 can be shared on devices. I have a Garmin Rino, Garmin Alpha and the Nuvi so select the area I am heading to and transfer it. And it does fill up fast, Lake and Cook counties in Mn. are pretty large and I can't put them both on any of the devices. I also hunt other areas including SD and Wi. so have to delete and add as I change areas. The roads and trails still leave a lot to be desired around Superior National Forest up to the edge of the Boundary Waters. This area is "lousy with chlorophyll" so things change rapidly though, not sure about the rest of the country and accuracy with it. Some of the roads I travel aren't on any maps that I have found including paper topos.

GLONASS is not available on any of the auto units yet and when is a commonly asked question every where I have looked, but with no answer from Garmin so far. Think I'll hold off upgrading until they do and hope it is soon. Makes a huge difference when in heavy canopy cover in the Northwoods.

Well I just bought my Garmin 2589LMT. I decided on the 5" screen since it fits well with my set-up now.

When I hooked it up to my laptop it showed 1.50GB free of 7.02GB total. Is that normal? Seems awfully full. Do I need to delete anything> Will this slow down the GPS's reaction time?

Also, Can I upload a pic & use it as an Icon? Right now I chose the blue pick-up in the menu.

Still not sure if I will permanently mount it up or not. I may just use it in the location pictured on this post. I will definitely hardwire it though. I'll route the cable to come out of where my GoPro cable comes out of now.

    Check out the vid also.

Being a solid state drive you should be fine with the remaining free space. I did free up space on mine for maps by deleting all voices except for English, don't recall exactly how I did it was a long time ago. Looks good!

Thank you and I would like to delete the extra languages if possible. I'm off tomorrow so I'll have time to look into it.

I'd like to keep ENGLISH (obviously),
    SPANISH (for my dad-in-law),
    and GREEK (for my dad).

I don't know if it has Greek though.

If you do run out of space, the map update process will assist with paring down the map coverage to be installed at that time. Don't worry about it until you need to.

    Merry Christmas TW!

    Here's the final set-up:

The cable going in front of my AC controls is power for my Go Pro

The hardwire cables (according to the message on the GPS screen) isn't compatible with my device. I find that odd. It is a Garmin hardwire kit.

All the other feutures work and I don't use the traffic option anyways so it's ok.

@Hennessy, thanks for the info.
As long as the traffic feature is the ONLY thing missing I'm fine with that. I never purchased or intended to purchase any traffic features for the Garmin. I honestly thought that it was included with the Garmin purchase.

OOOOOHHHH. So the plug is what gives it the traffic capabilities. Now I get it. DAMN! If I had known that I would've bought the proper hardwire kit.
