I'm sure this is already a thread and I apologize for that.

I'm looking into getting a cold air intake and I'm wondering what I should get and why.

    Thanks

AFE AFE!! I bought it and I am very happy with it. Pretty decent performance gain, enhances sound from exhaust pipe, and very little noise.

Skip the CAI and go for an AFE Pro Dry filter... The CAI's don't really show much performance gains for the money, other than sound.

This, but if you go for one or plan to SC down the road, go ahead and get the TRD. Made by the people who made the truck to work well with the truck.

None unless tuned. A CAI by itself isn't going to add power. If it does indeed manage to allow increased amounts of oxygen into the combustion chamber, you'd still need to tune the ECU so the EFI pumps in the proper amount of fuel to take advantage of that extra oxygen during combustion.

Essentially, unless you tune afterward, CAI/Exhaust is just for aesthetics/sound.

Assuming you do tune the engine, then you might, maybe, get 1-5 hp out of each of these mods at the crankshaft. The wheels will see less.

The company that makes the TRD CAI is the same company that Makes the AFE CAI. The AFE CAI is a lot cheaper than the TRD CAI. I got the AFE stage 2 and i am happy.

Hey, I got one on mine.

I intend to plug it in to a supercharger + tune down the line, but for now it sounds nice....

Are you running the Stage 2 SI or CX?

I'm looking into getting the Stage 2 CX with Pro Dry S filter

I got the stage 2 SI. The reason i got the stage 2 SI is keep the filter away from dirt when i take it off road. I bought my at the Pomona off road expo from the 4wheelparts.

I bought a very gently used TRD CAI for $250. I know BigLuke and some other guys were getting them new for $250 on ebay. In any case, I love it. Like people have mentioned, a CAI is not gonna add 50 horses. Itll add 5 to be overly optimistic, 1 at the least. The biggest difference youll notice is sound and the fact that you never have to buy another air filter again. Whether its worth it is up to what you like and what you deem "worthy".

The stock tacoma air box draws air from the wheel well so, naturally, it itself is a CAI. DO NOT GET AN AIR FILTER THAT IS NOT GOING TO DRAW AIR FROM OUTSIDE THE ENGINE BAY, you will essentially be converting from a cold air intake to a hot air intake.

Don't buy the Volant, unless you want to buy mine that is, & I could put that money towards the TRD cai.

I vote AFE stage II or the URD True cold air intake.

I was thinking URD, but I'm worried about getting water in the front so I think I have changed my mind and I'm going to with the AFE when I have the money.
