Mine has never done that while running AC. But since it has gotten cold here and I was using the heater yesterday, I pushed the recirc button and it turned on. A bit later I looked down and it was off. Pushed it on again and it is on look down later and it is off.

I was going to look through the owner's manual to see if it is even supposed to work with the heater, which I think it should, but maybe we have discovered a bug?

    Others, experiencing this?

This is a problem with a lot of Toyotas. My FJC did that as well. Has something to do with temperature and outside air. There are several threads about this on the fjcruiser.com forums. For some reason, this doesn't happen with the wife's '09 Corolla.

I have had no problem with the Recirc button in my '06 TRD Sport. I use it often and until I turn the ignition off, it stays on, all the time:).

Must be a problem with the later model year Tacos...

What else do you have on the controls?

I've seen this before....but I think there's some combination of having it on defrost or some other selection that it does act weird. I just never figured out what that was. Almost like....you can't have it on Recirc and defrost at the same time?? Due to the humidity can build up?

    THat's a wild guess....

Same problem here. Seems to do it when I'm on the heat side of the temp dial. Very frustrating.

Noticed this when I first got my "09. The trick to this is that you have to hold the recirculation button for 3 to 5 seconds. If you don't...it reverts back to outside air within a couple of minutes.

    From the Owner's Manual:

If the ambient temperature drops while using the recirculated air mode the air intake mode automatically changes from recirculated air mode to outside air mode after a few minutes.

    To cancel this function:
Press and hold for longer than 2 seconds.

    To reactivate this function:
Turn the engine switch to the LOCK or ACC position.

Thanks. I think that explains why it only happens on mine when on heat and it is cold outside. Works perfectly in the summer with AC.
