    Hardcore off road floor mats!
    Hey guys,

In a weird situation here, & thought I'd ask them Internetz what they thought before I did anything. So here's the story...

    The truck -

Metallic Gray, AC, SR, 4X4, MT

    The situation -

I put down $4k for a Tacoma back in early Nov. The dealership said they couldn't put in the order till the first week of December. Ok, I don't mind. I'm not in a huge hurry.

I the last week of November I see a opening for a job I have been thinking of on the west coast. I went to the dealership & told them not to order the truck yet because of said job opening. They said no worries, gave me my money back (Which i didn't ask for, but ok) & said they had already put the bid in to Toyota & Toyota accepted it.

The guy (manager) said it'll be here in mid January & if I'm still interested to just stop by & drop off a down payment again.

Well, two weeks later I decided against the job. Went back, gave them $4500 down. I talked to the sales guy I've been working with & he didn't know about the Toyota accepting the build. He talked to his manager & said his manager doesn't remember telling me this... -_-

So, they've looked for the vehicle I'm interested in, but haven't found much. As far as I can tell they haven't put in a build. I have a good amount of money down, serious about buying a new tacoma but it seems like they're just sitting on their hands.

Thinking about going to another dealership, but don't want to jump the gun or anything.... Thoughts? Ideas? Should I just man up & scream at the top or my lungs till they call the police & I'm hauled off in cuffs yelling 'JAPAN BOMBED US!' ha

I'm actually a car salesman. I do understand when he says he can't put in an order until whenever. that is how it works. There's no way he doesn't remember though. But I personally would just tell them if they don't get it right you will go to a different dealer. They will jump right on it. They don't want to lose a deal to another Toyota dealer. That's my opinion. I play that game all day long haha

Something similar happened to me a couple months ago. The dealer sent my order in and after a month I asked about the progress on my truck. He said he didn't know anything. I looked on cars.com and found a truck on another dealers lot, made the deal over the internet, then wrote the check out and picked it up the next day.

Not sure where you are located but there should be another dealership within an hour at least- go somewhere else. I had to drive 30 minutes to get my Tacoma after the first dealership ticked me off during the sales process on my trade in.

    Easy....

You need to ask point blank.. 'Is my original truck on order or not?'

I'd give them 24 hours for a definitive answer. If you still get a jumbled answer, Get you deposit back and beat feet.

You should look around. I'm starting to see new Taco inventory beefing up at dealers in MA.. There are at least a few on every Toyota dealership lot I drive by around here. Many dealers have trucks (not sold) on order too. Check the interweb.

That's s nice thing about where I live... I have three other Toyota dealerships with-in a 30 minute drive. This one is just the closest.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to head over in a minute & see what's up.

If they still made the Ranger in the states, I'd really consider one. Currently have a bare bones Ranger, & love it. Sadly the engine is going & ain't worth fixing.

So you cancel your order. Dealer decides not to order it/order something diffetent/just forgot to order/changed their minfs after talking to you/etc. but that doesn't matter because YOU CANCELED YOUR ORDER. They no longer have to order anything and are free to do what they want.

Now youre mad at the dealer for not having a truck on the way that you canceled? Yeah that makes a lot of sense.

The people you talked with probably don't remember telling you that because they deal with hundreds of people.

Yes, I canceled the order. But they told me it was already accepted & it would be built.

I went by today, & we got everything figured out. It's all good now. They'll know by the end of the month for sure if Toyota will build it & said 4 - 6 weeks for delivery. I'm in no rush, so it's all good. I just wanted to figure out what was going on. A $4500 check in their hands, & they didn't contact me or let me know what's up... Meh, it's all good now.

I would contact other dealers Internet sales and tell them what you want and to give you best price on that truck and date when it's ready for pick up. Some dealers will work harder for your bussines than others, you might just get that same truck faster and cheaper. It is your fault that they didn't keep that truck for you, could already be sold to someone else.

4 grand is too much to put down for them to hold it for you. My dealership just took a printout of my drivers license and a credit card and ordered it for late January/early february. Once it gets on the lot I'll negotiate with them when I can sit in it. If the deal sucks, I walk. Its your money, not theirs.

I would negotiate price before putting anything down, even if it's just license and credit card. You don't get the deal you want what's the point of waiting?
