its gets stiff and NOT advisable to leave it rolled up if it gets below 10-20F. i can tell you its a pita if you need to roll it and its -20F outside :)

the support bars help with the snow on top but then again its sits in the garage when she's not at work.

    ^ Yep, thanks..
Figured it would get pretty stiff in the cold. (the tonneau that is....). We can see -20F as well. Mine is mostly always in the garage as well. If full bed access is needed (very seldom) in below freezing, I guess I would just remove it.

Just installed my access vanish, it came with a seal you can use in the front crevices on the side and at the kick out on the side rails, should be decent at sealing but I'm going to reinstall and seal better on a sunny day, also it came with quite a gaudy logo about 8 inches in from the left side20151212_172029.jpg

the empty spots at the front rail that can be sealed, i will do something a bit more permanent on a nicer day

the crack that needs to be sealed with the provided seal

The verdict is a very tough question, mainly based on needs. I like the roll-ups, the functionality works best for me. After all these posts I think I am going with the Access original, it seems to fit on the truck the best. I like the Access vanish and Truxedo Lo-Pro but all the pics of those seem to show them sticking up at the rear of the truck. Wish I could see what they look like in person.

I got the Access Roll up Original for $364 and love it. Quality material, lifetime warranty, and easy to install. Fits well and keeps the water out.

    I've got the LB also.

I want a hard tonneau cover that I can place a beach chair on and lay out in the sun with my truck.

I hate vidoes like this. Guy huts it with his hand and say it's very sterdy. I want to see his fat ass jumping on it showing me how strong it is.

My verdict is...I'm ditching the Tonneau cover! I have the factory cover, and contrary to the opinions of most hating the OEM cover I rather like it, it looks good IMO, although heavy and maybe slightly overbuilt, could care less that they cut into the bed rails to install it since the install looks good, and it's very secure. I'm just finding that with the activities I use the truck for (surfing, SUP, camping, hiking, mountain biking, road trips, snowboarding, etc.) the tonneau cover really just zaps the vehicle of so much potential storage that you could have with a camper shell. I have no desire to camp in the bed, but if you're caught out in the rain after a ride, or just don't want your stinky, dirty, wet dog in the cab with you after a hike you can put them in the bed.

Now I just have to decide what I want, either a "top of the line" ARE Z series that has the best cosmetics and better hardware on the rear door, or the more "economy" version of the V-series with added side "windoors". I've heard mixed opinions on the windoors. Some say they leak, others say they result in the side of your truck getting all scratched up from always leaning on the side of the truck when you access the vehicle. Others say they never knew how they got along without them! I'm heading over to a dealer today to check them out. What I do know is whatever I get, it's going to have the slider and fold down option of the front window. Will make it easier to clean and the slider will be useful if I ever have to carry something really long like say, a fishing rod.

Caps are great. I was just never into the look. But I could find 1000 reasons to have one.

As someone who owns the factory cover, it actually is very sturdy.

Agreed, I am not a huge fan of the look, and I do really dig the look and function of the factory tonneau cover, and have been racking my brain trying to find a shell that I actually like that looks halfway decent and matches the truck aesthetically, but also is functional. For the most part the super sweet looking shells that 'flow' the best with the lines of the truck are big $$$ and are more show than go as far as options for the side windows/windoors, etc., and the ones that are the most versatile are just fugly! But the way I see it, I traded in my Subaru Outback for a truck so I could have an even more utilitarian, versatile and capable vehicle, and the shell just opens up those possibilities even more, while the tonneau is proving to be more limiting than the Outback was.

I never said it wasn't and it looks like it is. Just come on really with the corny fist hit. Lol

I'm still waiting on bakflip to come out with the vp or revolution

If you find some nice ones post a few pics or links. I'd like to see what's out there. I liked the idea of the dogs going in the back. I take them hiking all the time and they pig up my truck each and every time.

I totally understand what you meant and chuckled. Total salesman spiel! Like you said, I would have been super impressed if he got his chubby arse up on there and it held him. Heck, I just would have been impressed to see that he could get himself up there.

I think I've narrowed it down to ARE. At first I was really sold on SnugTop, but then read through an epic SnugTop thread on here and the one thing that really bothered me were all of the horrible customer service issues people were having with the company, and it basically seemed like the same theme popping up over and over where they weren't returning calls, giving customers the runaround, delaying repairs, repairs were not don't properly, etc. ARE is a national company so regardless where you live you can get parts all over the USA, whereas with SnugTop your S.O.L if you ever move to the east coast. Also, ARE seems to have the most option out right now for out trucks, and although I've read wonderful things about LEER, they only have one model available for the '16 Tacoma currently, and that has no options for sliders or windoors on the side windows. I've seen a few ARE's on some Tacomas lately (seems like every time I go to Costco there's a few Tacomas in the parking lot with camper shells, so I check them out) and then saw one with a SnugTop SuperSport and that was a sweet looking shell, but there's no way I'd go with a SnugTop after the bad taste that thread put in my mouth.

All depends on what you want. The base model SnugTop Rebel with a headliner and folding front window was $1650, and the XtraVision was a few hundred over $2k, and then you start adding options. I think ARE is a little more affordable. There are guys here who have easily spent $3k+ on a shell, which I think is crazy! I think I may just go with a stock ARE Z-Series and folding/sliding from glass and headliner and be happy.
