I'm trying to think of a situation where I would want to use my locker in 2wd instead of just putting it in 4wd?

sometimes the locker is all youd need. or you just want to see if you can do it. id just like to have the option to do what I want in my own truck.

Well I guess is there any reason other than just, "because I can".

Burnouts, drifting, passing stuck jeeps in 2wd. Ya know the usual no big deal.

Where I am...snow. Ok. And mud. And....oh hell, its so much nicer having a locked rear in 2wd and 4 high...remember, the locker only works in 4wd Low...functional to a degree, but usually I can appreciate it more in 4wd high.... if you are putting your truck in 4wd with an open front and an open rear, you are really only in 2wd anyway, should you have a front and a rear wheel off the ground. with a locker you will always have one wheel turning. A locked front and rear is virtually unstoppable in most terrain assuming you don't want to turn. :D

oh damn I didn't even realize it was only good in 4lo! damn. yea most stuff if I could get through with just a locked rear id rather push a button than switch into 4lo. I don't know how it is anymore but to get out of 4x4 effectively on my other vehicle, youd have to come to a complete stop and reverse ~5ft to have it fully disengage. so yea, convenience is another answer for you.

Yeah, it's just 4Low. I have a manual so I wheel in 4 low a lot anyway just to save my clutch.

disadvantages? Mostly wear in turns if used on a dry surface.....an open dif will theoretically get you better driveability.
There really aren't a lot. Turning is the big one.

Wonder if it would void my warranty?

For me personally I would lock the rear anytime I'm offroad... would disengage for U-turns or extreme turning but I would rather have a 50/50 power split to the rear wheels at all times and when on loose terrain it doesn't harm anything to have it locked. Burnouts, drifting and general shenanigans are way more fun with a locked rear.

For me it would be 2wd -> locked rear -> 4hi -> 4low but instead you can't lock the rear until the very end...

disadvantage ? trying to engage it at the wrong speed, like anything above 5mph
and the diff decides to grenade

disadvantage ? mistakenly engaging it, and now you can't steer for shit, and you are in traffic

one of the reasons it has the goof-proof interlock, is so it cannot be engaged where it could grenade itself from excessive speed

Agreed. I just assumed common sense would be used...its not something you should use constantly....

Aside from saying you did the mod I really can't see any advantage to modding the locker, if I need to be locked wheeling than I am in low range anyway. I've had 2 jeeps with Lockrite lockers in the front and a samurai that with a lockrite in the rear. I always wheeled in low range, even in the mud.

    Advantages?

How about a wet launch ramp and pulling a heavy boat out?

Speed has no affect on it "grenading". It's the same as going into 4 hi on the fly. As long as both sides are going the same speed it's fine. Don't engage it when one tire is going crazy fast in mud and the other is barely moving. Just like you wouldn't get stuck in 2wd and try to engage 4hi while the rear tires are doing 40 and the front isn't moving.
