Traction Control Thread

Ok so this past weekend it rained pretty good, which is unheard of here in Los Angeles. Anyways I was "allegedly" in an big, closed off area where I was "allegedly" trying to slide around in my truck. I noticed though that no matter what I did I could not get the traction control turned off fully. It felt like every time I had the wheel turned that the truck would not allow me to power out. I noticed the same sensation last time I went offroading as well, I could not get the back end out smoothly. I tried both methods of the TC (both pressing the button once and also holding it down until TCS flashed. Both methods had the same result of shutting off power once the wheel was turned.

Now in my 2015 I "allegedly" did doughnuts and slid around with no problem, on the dirt or pavement.

So my question is does anyone know how to fully turn off the Traction/ Stability control. If there is a sensor I can bypass or something I'm doing wrong to turn it off. It seams odd to me that Toyota would disable control of the traction control when all previous models allowed it.

 

Hmm. Im surprised holding the trac button down doesn't turn it off. Wonder why they would change that. I like to "allegedly" play in snow from time to time.

 

I was on the grapevine during that mudslide, lost control, had no traction and spun 90 degrees. E-brake saved our lives, and thank God for no collision

 

We're you at a stop when you held it down for 5 seconds? Nothing is suppose to "flash" when you hold the button down. Just the VSC and. Trac off lights illuminate

 

Has anyone successfully been able to turn off the electronic assists and allegedly do burnouts/drifts in a 3rd gen? You are not the first one to come here saying they weren't able to free up the rear end. If the electronic assists can't be turned off...well... thats a pretty big deal to me.

 

That is what I meant, nothing actually flashes. The first stage says AUTO LSD which in theory should let the rear wheels act in a way that would allow slides and burnouts. I've found myself doing one wheel peels in this truck

 

Yep! Just did this yesterday. Just have to hold down the traction control button and it'll turn off, just like the 2nd gen. When it was turned on, it kicked in a couple of times when I unexpectedly slid on some snowy sections (not for fun) so I'm glad it works, and can be turned off.

 

Really, you just held down the button and that's it? What kind of surface were you on? Did you slide at speed or slide from a stand still start?

 

That's it! Hold it for a few seconds and it turns completely off. Either in 4H or 2H. I started from a standstill and was able to do some nice 4-wheel power slides and some nice burn outs. It was on packed snow and ice, we've been getting hammered in the Cascades in Oregon.

 

OK so it rained again here over the weekend and again I was having the same problem. I held down the button and still couldn't get the truck to do what I was asking. Even gassing it up a hill with everything turned off going in a straight line the truck was still intervening

 

If it's intervening, you didn't turn it all the way off. Make sure you're at a stop when you hold the button down.

 

I did exactly that. I was at a complete stop. Could there possibly be a diff issue? Maybe time for a dealership visit :/

 

My money is on Operator Error. Mine works fine. I turned it off and did all kinds of donuts in the mud last weekend.

 

Had to be in "Park" on my Tundra

 

If I press the traction button, it will enable the Auto LSD. Traction control will be disabled up to 30 MPH. If I hold down the button for several sections, it disables it fully. I tested the Auto LSD in 2WD in the wet and was surprised how well it transferred the wheel slip from the rear passenger to the rear driver side pretty seamlessly. I have not taken it out for some doughnut fun yet though.

 

My TRD OR traction control turns off fine. Make sure you are completely stopped, by it doesn't have to be in park. Hold the button for 5 seconds and it will turn off. If you are moving or it was already in the half off mode it won't work. I've tested it in snowy parking lots several time nows it does great donuts in first gear and 4 high.

 

Wait so you have to turn on the LSD?

 

When I press the traction button, the traction light comes on and the Auto LSD light comes on. This is not the locker but the ABS actuated 'fake' LSD.

 

Please get your manual out and find out what Auto LSD means. If you think it let's you do burn outs, you are mistaken

 

So much fail. Same truck underneath. Press buttons for, roll over air bag off also, 5 or so seconds, truck with squiggly tracks behinde it, off. Rscs or whatever off also. Go play.
