Technically yes but it's really an open diff and the abs makes it an lsd. 2 of the spider gears are missing in the pic that's what I brode but it's an open diff

Oh, I think they might have had a mechanical lsd before 2012.... or I might be wrong... and jelious.

I talked with the people from east coast gear supply and they said the 8.4 in rear end ( non locker ) had an open diff. I think the 8.4 was used starting in 05 I believe but not 100%

I have had the TT for a year now with 10,000mi and half a dozen off-road trips. I absolutely love it. Lots of traction off road without any input and nearly unnoticeable on the street. Every once in awhile if I'm turning away from a stop sign in the rain I will feel it squirm for a split second. It is nothing anyone else in the truck would ever notice.

A couple of times wheeling I lost traction completely to one wheel and had to do the "slight brake" trick to get the TT engaged but even that is a tiny effort for such amazing road manners.

Does it feel any different on take offs or and difference in mpg. Does it ever kick in randomly during normal driving. And what was your break in process. I've been told 500 miles then change fluid

Like I mentioned, only feel it while turning away from a stop sign when it's wet. If I go straight or it's dry you would never know it's there.
No random "kick-in" or anything like that. Sounds and feels like stock open diff until you need traction and both wheels turn, automatically.
    No MPG difference.
I just drove like normal for a couple tanks of gas then changed the fluid. Eaton says to use dino oil too, not synthetic so it's way cheaper.

No problem. I'm thinking it was 05-08, then in 09 they went to the auto lsd electronic brake based limited slip.

Okay. They should have stayed with mechanical lsd. Or were they problematic

05 to 08 had mechanical LSD, and 09+ have the auto brake controlled LSD

I really like having the mechanical LSD, but havent driven one thats brake controlled for a comparison.

Does yours engage when turning both left or right because when I stomp on the gas with tc off and lsd on mine only engages turning left

I'm thinking it was just going to be cheaper to program the electronics than it was to install the mechanical unit. Probably safer for the average driver too. I think they also made changes to the traction control and stability control at the same time. Part of rolling out the "star" safety system.

Okay. Hoping a mechanical lsd will be a nice upgrade

I replaced the stock mechanical lsd in my 2003 Dakota R/T (for non-mopar guys, that's a 5.9l v8 sport edition) with this same diff and loved it. Much better engagement than factory. Comparing that to the electronic lsd on these is a night and day difference. This is an upgrade I definitely want to do but am not sure how the electronic and mechanical lsd's would "mesh" (get it). I kind of worry that the electric would try and assist when its not needed.

I talked to ecgs and they said that the mechanical LSD won't do anything to the electric lsd bs
