That explains the lack of activity going on in here.

Basically whenever someone transfers units/facilities we can bid for their shift/days off. It is based on seniority in the unit then seniority outside of the unit(if that makes sense, unit works have first dibs). Swings make 7.5% more than mornings and Graves make 10% more than mornings, so the extra 7.5% is nice.

Yes Sir...that makes sense. Ours goes off seniority also. We had it very nice...we work 4-10's. Sunday thru Wednesday or Wednesday thru Saturday. Wednesday was an over lap day...which was our training day. One end of the week would do training while the other worked the road...then the next week it would flip. That gave up the necessary time to stay up on changing laws, shoot at the range, and never run into a huge overtime issue. The nice think is you always got a weekend day off...either Sat or Sun...depending what end of the week you worked...so you had some sort of a normal lift hahahah

That sounds like a pretty kick ass schedule! I wish we could go to 10's, it would make shifts so much nicer. Getting training can be pretty brutal, especially in my unit. We have been short a few officers the last couple of months so we no training has been approved. Youth Corrections out here work 12's, 3 on 4 off then 4 on 3 off. That sounds like a pretty nice schedule as well.

We got very lucky...we have always worked 10's...well at least for the last 25-30 years. Anyway, somewhere along the line, we had the 4-10's put into our contract. In 2008 when everything went upside down with housing and suddenly everybody was broke and out of work...the city tried to save money by putting us on 5-8's which is more economically for the city. We called BS and dug out our contract...that's the only thing that has saved our work schedule. Of course since then that's the first thing during negotiations they want us to give up! Needless to say...the last 8 or so years have been pretty icy around the city building. It's all politics...I would just stay away. So glad I'm retired now! It was getting really ugly when I left!!

That's why a lot of people leave, the politics. I try to stay away from it and just go in and do my job, but you know how it is. We are trying to get our once a month pay changed to twice a month. Who knows if or when that will ever happen.

Hey did you ever get your lift installed? I missed a day or so...and I didn't feel like reading 10 pages to catch up. So I skipped that part and haven't heard anything else about it? Just you have a good amount of snow...hahaha! Awesome for skiing...sucks the rest of the time!

Not yet, I am going to be collecting parts till spring and then try to knock out as much as possible. I am hoping to at least get a bumper(since I went with 650lb springs), winch and still need to get tires as well. Should hopefully be getting all the parts for the CB by the new year as well. We are heading up to the mountain as well, they just got a good amount of powder the last 2 days.

You get paid once a month?? I do know I'm retired! I hated it at first...but it's growing on me. I think if I was younger with kids...it would be a lot harder. Why do they only pay one a month?

Yes sir, which sucks because everything is a month behind. So if I work overtime this month, I won't see it until February. Not sure why they do that, it doesn't make much sense at all since we our hours are based off a "14-day" period. Rumor is that in 2017 we will be switching to twice a month.

I use to love skiing in fresh powder. But I have to admit...Utah has all beat in the powder area! We went out there in 2001 for the Olympics and got to ski the same slops they had set up for the Athletes. It was pretty frik'in awesome!! Couldn't believe the powder they have out there...so dry!

I have heard that. My buddy really wants to go to Park City, UT and I would love to hit the slopes there. I am so used to snowboarding in the packed snow(ice) in AZ, that powder is so foreign to me.

That would be very hard to keep up with. I didn't even think about OT. Do yall have defer-comp. Where you work over time and instead of taking money you take it like vacation time. We could bank up to 480hrs or 48 days. And since you have already worked the time...they can not deny you the time off...no matter what. If they were short on bodies...they had to pay OT to cover it. But what I did...I built up the max and when I retired...I got to cash in all that time at once along with sick and vacation time. I had a really nice final check!

Yes, we can either take comp time or get your OT paid out. We are only allowed a max of 60 comp hours, after that they automatically pay the hours out to you. I like to keep my comp time as maxed out as possible, never know when you will need it. We can use comp time for vacation or sick time which is pretty nice. That is exactly what my dad did, cashed out his vacation time, but he would have gotten hosed with sick time. So he was "sick" his whole last year.
