Thanks to all for the incrediblely warm welcome.

A couple if comments: really like the sig line from Susan about the people God puts into your life and your response to them. Was encouraged to replace my own garbage disposal after watching a lady on YouTube do the replacement. Also replaced my old Sony 55" TV with a 60" Samsung Smart TV and really like it.

Looking forward to getting to know the members who follow the 60 + forum.

    Welcome Gary.
Just fill the coolers once in a while and don't fall off the porch and you'll be fine.
If you lose something just ask for help. We might forget what we are looking for but the effort is there.

Not that bad Rob, it starts 5 minutes after I wake up and takes 1 to 3 hours to go away. I have this type of flare up about twice a year. I hope it is finished till the summer. Need to find a new Avatar, should take 15 min or so.

    Morning all:
Also sorry to hear about the pain flaring up again Tom. Happening twice a year is at least better than constant. See that you changed to the seasonal Avatar.

    sixtys, wannabes, Susan.

I helped my dad pick out, purchase, and hook up yet another new TV yesterday. They hated the first one so much they took it back the very next day. Spent 2x more, got a bigger screen (40 vs 32) and much better image quality and sound. 40-incher fit the cabinet like it was made for it! Money well spent considering how much time they spend watching it. They're very happy. I even hooked it up to their wifi and set them up on our Amazon Prime account. 85+ years old and streaming video - how about that? :)

Today I have exactly NOTHING on my schedule. :woot: I may just sit around and read all day. Whatever. Feels good to have a day with no agenda pressing on me - it's been a while since I've had one.

It's a Sony Bravia Dave. Finding more and more about things this set will do. Now if I could only get it to cook I'd be really happy:D.

Hey Tom, I was always checking the thread, but for awhile I was really having a hard time with events happening around here. But life goes on:thumbsup:. I just hope you feel better. Any pain is a real pain:eek:.

    Take care of yourself Tom.

Enjoy the weather Mike. Hope work doesn't get you down too much. When mine did, I had the age option to tell them to "bite me" and retire. Have a great vacation.

There are soooo many models of TV's out there Dave. I know they'll enjoy the Amazon Prime. I started watching the Band of Brothers and will watch the Pacific after them. Lots to watch. Besides, keeping up with technology is the way for them to go. I was looking at the 60" Samsung but the sales guy at best buy said a customer just returned this TV and never opened the box but he gave it to us with the open box price:). The cabinet we had our old 35" picture tube TV in was not what the missus wanted so we ordered another cabinet. It was delivered Friday and I found it was damaged when I started taking the packing off. They are picking this one up and getting me another one. Gotta keep the missus happy.
    Enjoy your R & R day.

I don't know if it's just me but I've been seeing more and more damaged packages recently. Even the stuff in the stores has holes in the boxes, not just the stuff delivered to the house. I'm hyper careful when picking out packages in stores these days because of it.

My folks picked out a Bravia too. :) My wife and I also have one. The colors are very natural. Great TVs. I hear rumors that Sony might be leaving the TV business, then what am I going to do?

R&R was temporary. I wound up refilling the acid neutralizer tank. Not a hard job.

And I ordered some bits for my lawn tractor. I kept going out to the shed, seeing the mower deck standing there detached from the mower, and scratching my head - "What was the reason I did that again?" Finally I looked over at the workbench and saw the pile of parts there - oh yeah that's right, I was going to rebuild the rear roller assembly! o_O Took it all apart and promptly forgot about it I guess. Silver lining of sorts was that I saw how far my new wifi box reaches; I still had 4 bars all the way out in the shed.

    Merry Christmas fellow geezers!

My truck is about to hit the 100k mark, so I decided to give her an oil change. Looks like she'll be needing new shoes soon too. I'm hoping for another trouble free 100k miles. Trouble free except for the 6 or so recalls! Planning on changing out spark plugs again also. I'm surprised at how well my suspension has held up. Shocks are still good, no squeaks or anything, and the front end is still solid. I guess driving like the old man that I am has benefits!

Gary, I was at a friend's house last night watching the football game on his 60" Samsung TV, and I couldn't believe how great the high def is. Thinking of getting one of those soon too. One thing though, he mentioned that his speakers were sounding like they were starting to crackle, as he listens to music on it a lot. (poor radio reception) He just got a sound bar so all is good.

    Aloha.

Cheech1 the HD is very good and so far the speakers are ok. I previously used a stand alone surround sound system but moved into a new house a while back and did not want to deal with wiring it up so gave it to Goodwill. It did sound really good though.

:pccoffee:  Woke up early again.

Happy Holidays cheech! Glad to hear your truck is still serving you well. We bought ours with the expectation of keeping it for a long time so it's encouraging to hear. Then again I'm in the northeast and have the salted winter roads to contend with, so I guess we'll just have to see how long ours lasts.

We're on our second surround sound system at the house. I put the first one in back in 1993 or so. The speakers were still working fine when I donated them to Goodwill - nobody in the family wanted to deal with 20 year old stuff I guess. Or maybe it was like you said Gary, they didn't want to deal with the wiring.

The subwoofer is much smaller this time and very inconspicuous. Wife likes that. I also really beefed up the center channel with the new system, it's the channel with a lot of crucial sounds like voices etc. so I wanted it to really be good this time around. Old ears and all that.

The TV was 20 years old too, a Sony Bravia CRT model that weighed 160 lbs. You could almost see the lights in the house dim when it turned on. The new TV has 4 times the surface area, 4 times the lines of resolution, and takes all of 19 watts of electricity! Image quality is where the really big strides have been made in the past few years.

Speaking of lights dimming - the power went out here last night. I waited in the dark for a few minutes before deciding that it wasn't going to come back on, and 3 minutes later we were on the generator. I called the utility to let them know, and asked for an automated call back when they thought the power was restored. Sat there doing Christmas cards and watching Netflix until the phone rang to tell us they thought it was fixed. 3 minutes later we were back on street power. Not quite as automatic as one of those Generac-style rigs, but I can live with it.

:woot:on 100K Cheech. Hope you get many more out of your Tacoma. The sound on our Sony Bravia is good but after the holidays and some bills are paid I'm going to get a sound bar for it. Can't beat the picture:thumbsup:.

Technology with wireless has really made our lives easier Gary. Doing research for a good sound bar instead of surround sound.

I have pretty much the same issue with our old Toshiba(13 yrs. old) Dave. It's a 35" and weighs about a hundred and 150 lbs. It has a great picture but alas no one wants it. The recycling company wants $.35 a lb. to take it and Best Buy will only take up to 32" sets unless you have them pick it up and then it's $100:eek:. I'm just going to put it in the basement and hook up the Xbox for the grand kids to play. Just as long as it works, I won't get rid of it.

    Have a good day all:).

    Morning all:
Sounds like when you need to get rid of the Toshiba it may need a little modification!
If you have regular garbage pickup, a sledge hammer and some other tools may do the trick!
I've modified a few things myself that they normally wouldn't pick up! ;)
Seems strange, someone dumps the same thing along the road and they come and clean it up for free! You want to do it right, and it costs you!

Interesting! Just went to renew a boat reg. online for the first time, it would cost $2.00 more to do it that way; SO, just did it the old way and sent the app. by mail.
OK; it cost me a stamp, but with the 2 boats I'll save a little over $3.00.
I need the money more than they do!!!! :D

Thanks for the idea Carl. Modifying it just might work. Or I could gift wrap it and leave it in the back of the Tacoma:) or put it out front with a "For Sale $200" sign and see what happens:rofl:.

Made me think of when Randy and I did those two hwy corridor nuisance moose hunts; hunt boundaries were 2 miles either side of the hwy. Amazing, and quite frankly irritating, the number of illegal dump sites we came across. I don't know how people can do that. :frusty: But I guess I just have to add that to the list of "stuff people do that I'll never understand." o_O
