Wondering what would be the best way to get more light while backing up for a cheap and useful price

^^ best route to go, you can tie in to the factory reverse lighting circuit

these little inexpensive LED lights attach under my bumper and work great. there is a chance i could scrape them off on some steep terrain, but again'they weren't too costly.

That's what I was going to do, but I got to looking today. My truck is a 1st gen and the bumper is flat, my sisters 2nd get is angled down towards the ground. Ya think if I put them in that they would need shims or something so they wasn't aimed in the air?

Test fitted mine today. I'll figure out my wiring in such a way they'll work in reverse and they can be manually switched on as work lights.

I was going to tap off of stock reverse lights to a switch and tap off of clock for acc to a switch. Then send that to a relay connected to your lights

The reverse tap is a probable. I may just make it an in cab switch and fire them up when needed as opposed to each backing event. Of course that's manual, so I'd be all done for work lighting too. And I have @mattgecko underrail bed lighting. So night work with kayaks, bikes, etc would be pretty easy.

If I reverse tap, I'll also make a manual switch. That means a diode in the tapline to the reverse lights, so they don't get backfed off the manual circuit.

Not really sure these little low wattage lights need a relay involved?

I put a pair of cheap LEDs on the hitch and wired them into the reverse lights. They are really helpful with the Besttop on.

I also ran strip LED lights under the tie down rail for those times I need bed lights.

Hard to tell. I would expect that the light would naturally go towards the pavement due to the reflection. However without playing around with it, it's difficult to see.

For all of you that have already wired your lights-
What's the easiest way. I've read to relay, not to relay, add a switch, dont add a switch. I'm looking to have the lights come on only when the truck is in reverse. Originally I thought about tapping into the trailer harness and throwing an inline fuse between the lights and the tap spot. Will this be sufficient? Any help would be great!

It depends on how many amps your lights pull, I'd tap the reverse lights to a relay so you don't have to worry about pulling to much current

Thanks. Can I tap to a relay without running all the way back to the battery? Basically use the power from the trailer harness?

If you did that, you might as well not use a relay and just tap the reverse lights.

If you use a relay, yes you will need a power feed from the battery.
I used low amp LEDs and pulled power from the reverse lights. The LEDs I used only pull 0.18 amps each.
Keep your amps low and you'll be fine. If the fuse pops you exceeded your capacity.

Ok, sounds good. The amperage listed for mine is 1.5 amps each.

Finally got around to wiring everything in- I ended up doing the fogs as well! For cheap Amazon lights these things are bright! Almost too much. When the daylight isnt fully dark its a bit grey in my mirror display.
