I've owned several Toyota's which included two trucks and a 4 runner. All were great vehicles and had there quirks, which vehicles do because there assembled by humans and robots that make errors. Nothing is perfect in today's world, but we as society have turned into a bunch of whining complainers and want everything perfect!!! Like you said stay off the internet is the best thing. Otherwise I like my Taco and have no complaints.

Let me put it this way. Car forums are a breeding ground for OCD folks. It's crazy. Next time you read a thread or post about a problem -- and it is well written and plausible - check the poster's post history. You can sometimes spot a trend where they are the kind of people that will never be happy and nit pick about everything.

From doing this, you can easily weed out real concerns and 'imagined' problems.

From reading these forums religiously since buying my Taco, it's the same few dozen folks that bitch bitch and bitch.. If you put them to ignore, you will see that there is much less complaining.

I can write off most of the whining, but I'm not gonna lie...ever since I read the thread about the guy's brakes failing pulling into his garage it has constantly been in the back of my mind. :smash:

I am super OCD and mainly own/owned land rovers (and other British, some German too) so the Tacoma is actually nice that there is nothing much wrong with it for me to fiddle with and fix. Does not stop me from being paranoid.

Probably going to change the oil at 1000 miles and put redline MT90 in the trans (was wonder in both my lotus)

I bougot my 2015 in August and the funny thing is I don't ever read about the problems the 2nd Gen has or had. I just read about how bad the 16 is so I don't have to worry about readING bad stuff about my truck

Unfortunately Tacoma world wasn't around in 2004 when your truck was released, but i'm willing to bet the same complaints and complainers come out for each generation of released vehicle. It's not just here. I'm on a bunch of other car forums and right when something is released, it's usually hated on by the previous generation guys.

But do go in and get the hood re-glued to the supports if the glue is failing ;)

It's a double edged sword. It's good since it allows people to know what to look for and how to fix it, but it also makes people more self conscious. I stopped looking for issues after 500 miles. I figured if it was going to have any factory issues I would have realized them by now.

Best thing I've found is to not use any of the miles per gallon/tank screens and drive the truck as you want.

By continually obsessing over the fuel usage I was going crazy with how the transmission behaved.

Now I simply step on the gas when I want to go and the transmission is hardly an issue.

I need to learn how to do this more often. When I first got the truck I was watching those screens religiously. Even now after 5000 miles I still have a hard time not checking them at least once every time I'm driving, It changes how I drive as well.

    I totally hear you!
I too had some concerns after reading all the issues mentioned, but my experience in the industry allowed me to dismiss most concerns as having no merit.
There's a reason why car makers took out the transmission dipstick we all love and miss so much, the Zerk fittings on the suspension components and 2X4 driveshafts.
Most ppl do more damage fixing things that aren't broken than necessary costing companies their reputations and needless warranty work.
Enjoy your truck, it's among the very best made vehicle at any price bar none....Trust me... :D
