Engine is in and as predicted, there's a bunch of little issues that have cropped up.

    Dropping the whole mess in:
    KIMG0245_0f43f3fd9118a568d1070ca5d294185e34eb4032.jpg

Re-wrapped the starter/alternator harness with 3m tape to give it some new life:

    KIMG0248_95aa6dcb88487f94efd360997183b40c4b0eb7b2.jpg

The hood does clear! I had to cut out some of the supports underneath, and clock the compressor housing a bit but it works. The oil drain also need to get reworked since it runs into the wheel-wells. The downpipe also doesn't fit with my adapter. I think I'll probably just mod the CX downpipe and weld the Holset flange straight to it.

Below you can see where I mounted the igniter due to where it's companion MAF plug will need to be. It's not idea since it will get hotter, but it's right behind the fan so it should get good airflow.

With this, I can read in engine load and RPM data, and create a lookup table that targets a specific compressor speed based on load and RPM.

For all the other folks wanting the excel file - it's not quite ready for release - there's still some parts I'm not sure will work exactly and/or are specific to my turbo and install.

Still really curious to see how well this will actually work. Don't see how this turbo thats made for a way bigger diesel is going to suit the motor well, even if the diesel runs at a much lower rpm. I mean yeah maybe it would be suitable if you are racing the thing and at high rpms alot or something. But for just regular driving I don't see it being very suitable. I guess we will see. Very interesting!

And it kinda looks like your compressor outlet piping it going to be in the way of the air intake on the turbo..

Yep, the turbo is on the big side, see post #9.

Engine is running running and didn't have any leaks the first fire , but I broke my company's $250 bead roller putting beads in the intercooler pipes, so I'll have to wait until after Christmas to get that done.

I've just been doing random little things on the build the last few days.

I ended up just welding the CX downpipe straight to the cut-off 351VE flange since the downpipe was hitting the firewall with my adapter.

Here's where the upper and lower downpipe meet:
    KIMG0018_13140a7543a4012fb6bad673630d5090b4fb9e92.jpg

The dipstick for the transmission also had to be moved, so I made a little bracket to prevent it from hitting the exhaust manifold.

Christmas time means garage time! And family stuff I guess, and Jesus, of course.

Here's the picture of the CX downpipe with the original flange cut off, and the Holset flange, which was cut off its elbow, welded on. This step took lots of cutting, test fitting, removing, more cutting, more testing fitting, etc to get right before I tacked it on the engine, and removed to weld fully.
    KIMG0264_862deac3aaf4f818890a76bddf5e27a27d099556.jpg

My co-worker finished welding the little angle-aluminum brackets I made for mounting, so I got it all mounted up.
    KIMG0259_b9cd9f0be546a79048a4787887a912196f8ecac3.jpg

I used some bushings and sleeves from some random Subaru brackets to give some cushon. Aluminum is pretty prone to fatigue cracking.
    KIMG0261_59c0d658499a6be8f48361b41e552973113bd352.jpg

The charge pipes fit perfectly after a little trimming of the couplers.
    KIMG0262_51ecd3de344a8dfab1b937911b4f29a57d888a5b.jpg
    KIMG0263_79bff868bf893933758df67e8c14db47215decc2.jpg

Stock MAF tube cut out, maintaining the original air splitter thing. I'm sure it's important for the flow dynamics so I kept it in there. Cut down to the diameter shown, it measures out to about 3", so it's easy to adapt plumbing. I'll be trying out a blow-through setup, which isn't ideal to maintain metered air for everything, but it's kinda the only option with limited space for intake pre-turbo.
    KIMG0258_eb0c41524497ea3dcaca842e321ad5f1092e4b66.jpg

It's like Toyota wanted us to install a blow-off-valve on these motors: this un-used fitting on the intake manifold is the perfect place to get a vaccum reference for the valve.

And a quick 1/8" tee for the boost gauge:
    KIMG0265_2f38b2a37e4175d5bf92299224468188e8205ecd.jpg

    Look for a video tomorrow.

Wow, this thing is gonna be cool. A buddy of mine is fixing to throw a HX35 on his 300zx, these turbos are big. One question though, do you think the intercooler will be okay being supported by two pieces that move independently of each other? The body (top intercooler mounts to it) and the frame horns (bottom intercooler hooks to it) can move independently of it to a certain degree.

Doubt it'll be an issue since he used rubber isolators and long as it's not bolted down uber tight but just either lock nuts. Should be good
