Last minute day trip to Hollister Hills anyone?

Sorry for the last minute post, but I along with a few other off road enthusiast (mainly from the East Bay) plan on trekking down to Hollister on Saturday (19th) morning (eta 9:15 to 9:45). If you're are interested in joining us let me know, the more the merrier. The group includes a mix group of rigs and people (Frontiers, FJ80, Gen 1 Tacoma even an Xterra).

Also had a question, it's supposed to rain, and one of the drivers is recommending that we reschedule the trip. I've never been to Hollister so I don't know if this guy is being overly cautious or if his fears are valid? I would love to hear TW members recommendation since a lot of you are very experienced and seasoned off roader's. To give some context, most of our rigs/mods are tame compared to some of you guys here. Most of us have basic 2-2.5" lift in the front (Billys or OME) with AAL 1.5" lift in the back. Most have 33" tires, while I'm still sporting 32" AT Nitto G2.

I've never been there in the rain, some of the climbs might be difficult in wet conditions. Sounds fun! Checking whether I can go. @tyfoon11 @BudMan @the glen

Yea I don't think I'd personally like some of hollister in the rain. Some of those trails are at angles that a bit of slipping could have you hanging off of a mountain, and some of them I don't think I could get up

 

If this is on, count me in.

 

Never been in the rain but I'm sure it'd be slick. I remember hearing about a trip @bjmoose took in the rain. Very slippery crawling down but forced traction w front and rear lockers. I would rather go a day or two after the rain. Not saying it wouldn't be fun though . Irregardless, I dont think I can go. Small chance, but unlikely. Holding out hope that I'll have to make a trip down to brute force fab for my bumper. Hopefully at powder coat this week

 

I've been to Hollister in the rain. You have to be willing to adapt to conditions on the fly. If it's raining hard and muddy, stick to the green circle roads at the bottom and the obstacle courses. But people go to Hollister all the time in the rain to deliberately get trucks muddy on the obstacle courses

1. A little rain - takes down the dust and improves traction.

2. More rain - things start getting slippery. Get off the mountain.

3. Lots of rain - things can get sketch in a hurry. If necessary, leave truck where it is, walk back, and pick it up later after everything's dried out.

I was driving down at condition "2" and came a little closer than I would have liked to sliding into a tree.

 

Exactly why I stick to flat ground muddin' lol. Getting sideways while controlled=fun! Getting sideways on a mountain and unable to stop=bad

 

Thanks everyone for their responses/recommendation, exactly what I was looking for. As of right now I'm still strongly leaning towards going based off the highly accurate never wrong weather projection which has most of the heavy rain starting at 3 pm. Also my friend with the FJ80 whom has the most off road experience amongst our little initial group (not saying much), essentially said the same thing as BJMoose. With this being my first time at Hollister, combine with my young son coming with me, and the fact that I'm still sporting 32" AT (ran out of budget), I plan on taking it pretty easy by sticking with the greens.

Weather forecast shows rain probability at 50% now. I like these odds.
