How does the rear cab window lineup with the cap window? I read before that there was ~4" difference in how it lined up from the bottom of the window.

Any chance you can get a wide angle pic with the tailgate and rear cap window open?

This is pretty much everything I need except have the LB on order. Sweet setup...

There is about 3 inches across the bottom of the topper window that is higher than the bottom of the cab window, and the upper left and right corners of the cab window are curved downward and are lower than the top of the topper window. That being said, the rear seat headrests are much more of a sight blocker than the bottom three inches of the topper window are. If the topper window was smaller at the top instead of the bottom it would be a much much bigger issue. I seriously didn't notice it one single time while driving. Would definitely get the flip down interior window. I realized that when I went to clean the windows when I traded the old Tacoma and realized if you can't flip the window down, you can never clean the space in between the two windows.

Have you done any leak testing yet? I'm considering an ARE cap or tonneau, haven't decided which.

I finally pulled the trigger on a 2016 Tacoma-- getting a long bed Off-Road. Hoping it will arrive in the next couple weeks. I found a great deal on a topper for the 6' bed (which seems hard to come by), but it's from a 2013 year Tacoma. From previous posts, I've surmised that the bed is ~1" higher than the 2nd gen bed, so the topper would likely sit a little higher than the cab.

Has anyone done this combo? Are there pics to see just how "off" it looks? Just buying the truck pretty much broke the bank, so scraping together another $2,000 right now for a brand new topper would be a stretch. Sounds like the tailgate might also be an issue, with the lengthened top border this year. Wondering if an older shell would work at all, or if the tail glass wouldn't even close. I don't mind it looking goofy for a while while I save up for a new one.

Anyone have any experience with this? Pics?

After taking pictures of this, I noticed, the bottom of this interior topper window almost has to be this high. It has to be at least as high on the bottom as the side windows of the topper. Otherwise, there would be absolutely no spacing between the bottom of the window and where the shell meets the bed. Guessing all manufacturers would not want their window sitting right on the bed as leaks would be even more likely.

It has just been raining and raining for days. There is very little water getting in. I would say less than an ounce or two of water over several days...and it has rained ALOT. Not enough to actually hurt anything. I've notice that the tailgate is much thicker by about 2 inches than my 2012, mostly as a result of the tailgate spoiler, and less rain can get all the way in.

Can anyone recommend a Leer Canopy Dealer in the Portland, Oregon area.

    Thanks

Also, there were zero leaks where the roof rack was installed. All leaks were at the very back corners where the topper meets the tailgate. A couple of 1 inch squares of rubber attached at precise locations could take it from "water resistant" to "water proof"

I see you are in BC, how about a Marysville dealer? Superhawk is who I'd recommend. They sell Century, same as Leer and snugtop.

image.jpg Tacopocalypse, any chance u take a pic like this? This is from one of my '08s with toolboxes. I'm trying to get an idea of how much room I'll save by just getting the windoors instead...

Canopy is an ARE V series for <$2k installed: 2 windoors (side lifts), non-slider front w/open-in (for cleaning), rack-rails, LED light, and gray carpet. We were told the wait might be 5 or more weeks, and it arrived in 4. Fit is tight, only very slight leakage in the torrential rains we've been having on the Oregon coast, but I didn't ask for a hermetic seal. Also didn't send in the fuel-door for an 'exact' color match, just went with the paint code.

I ended up ordering an ARE Z-Series yesterday with the headliner, sliding/folding front window and tracks only (no rack) on the roof. Decided on the stripped down Z instead of going all out with sliding windoors on the X or the V after reading how the windoors tend to leak and have read threads about rotting gaskets and issues with them. Plus the Z-Series just had much better hardware and a really nice glass rear window with the burliest hinges and the cleanest look. Still think I could have used the windoors but it seemed like if you wanted the function and options like windoors you had to go to a lower end shell. I went with the higher end shell in hopes that it will have less problems down the line. Spec'd out with all the extra features on the lower end model it basically cost the same as the basic Z-Series with the sliding fold down front window. Hoping to get it sometime in January. Dealer said it may take a little longer given the time of year and the holidays.

Yep, always get what feels right for you, as long as you can afford the 'upgrade'. I figure with minimal maintenance I'll be able to keep the V in good shape, but with no maintenance, anything can start having problems. After lots of upgrading in the past, I realized the folks that won the most were the ones that got my money in the exchange. ARE seems to be willing to back their products, no matter which model one purchases, which is always a bonus.

I have to chime in here, if you are buying a SnugTop, Leer.Century, ARE, etc., they shouldn't leak. If they do leak, the vast majority of the time, there is an issue with the install, not the actual canopy itself. If I am paying $1500 - 3000 for a cap, it better be water tight. I live in the Seattle area and had a Leer on my 2nd gen for about 3 years. It was water tight for the first 2 years, then developed a leak along the front seal where it meets the bed. Took it to the dealer and they "sealed" it with additional caulking, no more leaks. I can't see why someone who is paying so darn much for a product such as this would accept leaking, even if it is minute. I ordered a SnugTop for my 3rd gen, if it leaks at all, it will be going back and staying at the dealer until it doesn't.

I was going to Oregon anyways and thought I might as well save the sales tax...

I have a A.R.E. cap on my 2002 Tacoma. It leaked. I went back to the dealer and they sent me to the local glass shop. They "fixed" it. It still leaked. Back to the dealer who sent me back to the glass shop. They "fixed" it again. It still leaked. Back to the dealer and they sprayed water on it from a garden hose and told me it didn't leak. It still leaked. I did some sealing myself on some suspect areas. It still leaked. I've accepted leaking.
