I agree with what you're saying to some degree - I think Belichick gets more out of less than other coaches are able to, and I think it's a credit to him and Matt Patricia, and the brain power between those two. They know what they can give up on defense; conversely, they know what they absolutely can not give up on defense. They have always had a great offense, as long as Brady is there, they will continue to have a great offense, no matter who the chumps are that are catching the balls or carrying them. So here is an interesting stat about the Pats defense; this year they are ranked #7 against the pass. Last year, they ranked #17 against the pass - that's with Browner and Revis, vs with Butler and Ryan. While we can say that Butler is a one hit wonder, his stats suggest otherwise. I like him, and I think he does a really good job - will be a great corner in due time. I also think Leonard Johnson is going to be a stud for us, and that we finally got that third corner that we can rely on. We picked him up wednesday, and he played a hell of a game Sunday. Just another credit to Belichick, getting more out of less.

I think not necessarily does Larry Ellison know how to win but he knows how to put people in the right place to win. If this happens, the Niners will be much like the Seahawks where the team will have a very wealthy owner that is willing to invest in the right people to turn the Niners into a winning franchise. The Yorks had no business involving themselves in the day to day operations of a NFL franchise.

Assuming a guy "knows how to win" in the NFL because he's successful in business is stupid. Most of the major sports owners are or were businessmen first. No salary cap in sailing or business. Also, he has no football background no sports background. It would purely be a money move. Paul Allen had been involved in and around sports for a long time before he purchased the Seahawks.

Also, SF striving to be like Seattle and hoping they can be a winning franchise. That just made me lol.

Have you heard of Microsoft? Any privately financed space program? Paul Allen is an integral part. He puts the right people in position to succeed. Ellison does the same thing. It's not about being a winner. If Ellison buys the Niners he isn't going to try to run a NFL franchise. He will hire the best people to run the team.

He's a proven winner. In business, and in sport. If that means he's smart enough to know what he doesn't know, and hires those that do, then it makes him a winner. I think it's safe to say we can 'assume' you'll poo poo anything unless it's someone slobbering all over your team, or your opinion.

I agree with that last part. But...Arthur Blank knows how to win in business...but obviously not in sports. Lol. Although I think the Dan Quinn hire was ok. I think he's gonna work to get the right people in ATL. Until Matt Ryan is gone, nothing is gonna change, though.

That's my point exactly, being a great business man doesn't really mean much when it comes to sports. Many more have failed than have succeeded.

I disagree. The NFL is a business. If you think a salary cap is gonna scramble up Ellison's brain, you're wrong.

Hell, Robert Kraft sells toothpaste and look what he's done with the Pats. Doesn't take a sports / football nerd to run a successful NFL franchise. Think about how many connections Ellison has. I think he'll be fine, he's worth over $50B so I'm not going to second guess his business capabilities bahaha

You need to check on the $$ Larry dropped in nautical racing R&D. His winning yacht team invented shit all the other boats are adopting. I agree that the salary cap is what would screw him up.

It also means that our database budget would go to supporting the 49ers, and I don't know if I'm down for THAT.

I agree with this except the part of "it's not about being a winner." Everything this guy touches turns to gold, so in that respect it is about being a winner. He wouldn't be another Jerry Jones, and I do agree that he would get the best management team since the great days of the Niners. But alas, this is still a rumor, but a juicy one. :)
