x2, there's no use arguing with him. I had the same debate a year or so ago with him, almost word for word what Noelie said. I'll take skinny tires with good tread any day for on road driving.

"Marshall Schuon provided some sound advice about winter driving ("Getting From Here to There -- Safely," About Cars, Dec. 16), but he perpetuated a common fallacy that wide tires "provide less downweight per square inch" than narrow tires. Actually the weight per square inch of any tire is always equal to the air pressure in the tire. Any tire inflated to 32 pounds per square inch, for example, presses down on the pavement with 32 pounds per square inch. Also, tires of various aspect ratios but with the same inflation pressure and supporting the same weight will have contact patches of different shapes but with the same area."

"Narrower tires, better for snow, sink deeper because of their different proportions of length and width of the contact patch's shape."

Gentlemen Talk is cheap.. I am not the one who is claiming that you can get rubber tire to asphalt through snow and ice... I am callign your statement complete BS and saying prove it...
We can all meet up, toss money into the hat and see ... I am always up for some free money. Winter will be here soon, I am sure we can find place with ice and you can bring your super skinny tires.

I simply stated an opinion, I see no need to 'prove' anything to you. I just said, I'll take tall, skinny tires for on road driving any day, and I do. I haven't been stuck in the snow yet and travel to some pretty remote areas in upstate NY. Do what you like, as far as I'm concerned, that's as much proof as I need.

Yup, I had been trying to point that out many times, but some people keep bringing those tires up as the proof. Studded tires vs non studded tires is different story.

Not to mention, those skinny studded tires mounted on 400-700 HP vehicle are not able to get to asphalt or gravel under packed snow during the race, so skinny tires with no studs, on 200 HP truck have no F chance in the world to get to hard surface thats under snow and ice. And thats a fact...

Right, so you are the a-hole that is stuck on hills and rams people because skinny tires not are only bad for acceleration, but also they brake like crap, because they cut through snow during the braking, while wider tire act like massive plow to slow you down much quicker.
    Got it.

Well we can get skinny tires, we can find ice up hill and you can prove it.... :D
Your truck on super skinny tires should have no problem cutting through ice and climbing the hill.

You win you can keep skinny tires, you lose ... how about I keep your truck ?

Its called plow effect and its mention in almost every ABS disable thread.

Do you lie to yourself, friends, and family too? Or are we privileged to hear your nonsense, exclusively?
