2016 Tacoma Actual MPG is 11/15?

New here in the forum Dont know if you guys have the same experience. My 2016 Tacoma 4x2 TRD Offroad is rated 19/21 mpg. Thats the reason I decided to get one. I am getting 11/15 actual mileage. Am i missing something?

 

Yeah, you're missing out on dividing your actual miles driven by how many gallons of fuel used to drive it.

Whatever your dash display says, while it should be accurate, means nothing if that's all you're relying on.

 

...and you're not broken in yet.

 

when the engine starts to break in it will increase. mine was low as well until I got around 500 miles on it, then it got alot better.

16 sucks, but you're also driving 70 in the pic.

My mileage drops like a rock if I'm over 2000 RPM, which is about 62 MPH. You could try slowing down, even the new fangled engine technology isn't happy at higher speed driving and modest fuel consumption.

Also, FWIW, my MPG never changed "after break in." As Rock Lobster said, that engine "break in" is old timey, modern engines are broken in by the time your truck hits the lot.

lol you think that's bad, ask how many eco boost owners (in reality) get the stated mpg on those ford trucks

and im not talking about those hyper milers or granny foot drivers.

 

if I want mpg, I will go buy a sedan. actually the warden gets worse mpg in 2 weeks per tank than I do on my weekly fill ups on my 2014 4runner running at 74 mph 15 miles 1-way to work with either a head/side wind and using the remote start for 15-20 mins at a time.

 

You have 260 miles on the truck. Cmon man.

 

My first tank and my 20th were identical.

I guess you still believe the first 10,000 miles should be horrendous and shitty economy and performance, and at 10,001 it's a unicorn truck.

 

I've had 3 2015 vehicles

My accord went up by 3mpg after around 6k miles

My Tacoma went up by 2 mpg highway after 9k

Waiting for my Ram to do the same which I know it will after driving my dads 2013 for the first 15k miles in college

I've made the same route many times from Jackson,MS to Memphis and kept track each time.

 

Mine didn't.

Now what do we do?

 

Nothing. We just go about our day.

 

yeah, I haven't noticed any "break-in" mileage increases on either of the Tacomas I've owned. Any changes I've noticed can be traced back to the type of driving. More highway- better mileage, more city- less mileage.

2012 Tacoma with 43,500 miles. Bought with 3 miles on the odometer.



2016 Tacoma with 2350 miles.




The OP's does seem a bit low but also looks like he just filled up. Have a DCSB TRD-OR 4x4 and I get about 19-20 @75MPH on the interstate and 22-24 @60MPH on the highway. Get 16-18 back and forth to work which is only 5 miles and a good amount of stop and go. Using cruise drops my mileage 1-2MPG because it likes to drop to and hold 5th when not needed.

 

I wonder. My 2008 Highlander was 17mpg at tank number 1 and 17mpg at 130,000 miles.

No way man, definitely continue to tell someone else who drives a different vehicle in a different region, using different fuels, different speeds, different roads, and different driving patterns how he's not allowed to question his fuel efficiency because he doesn't meet your 6-9k mile criteria of driving the same roads and not seeing any MPG gains.
