20.01 mpg on this tank. we have had a few days of extreamly cold weather (i think the high was 24 or something yesterday and it was about 6 when i woke up and headed to work) the first few days of cold i let my truck warm up a little while i scraped ice, and then i got the garage cleaned out enough to get my truck back in there. AIT struggled to stay at 32* yesterday morning above 40mph but that is still 26* above ambient temp

Still reading, thanks for the updates. I should have some cycles this weekend to pop the hood on mine and see what's what. Also ready for a fillup so hopefully I can correlate the two.

i hauled a 420 rancher for 50 miles or so of my 290 mile tank (its been a couple days sorry for the delay) and did a good bit of hunting since it ends this month, plus we had some single digit cold snap on that last tank so i let my truck warm up some a couple of mornings. i still managed 19.7 mpg. not great but im still pretty happy with it, since i just saw on live that a bunch of ppl were getting less than 200 miles till the light.

@yota243 are you doing this "warm air intake" mod again this winter?

Yeah i just took it off last week since its been warm and it got all but hot this week. I did hit triple digit ait the other day ha. I also have 255/85 mud tires this year so my numbers havent got quite to 21 with those tires this summer yet

I have not had the time but have been tempted to do exactly this to raise intake temps when its really cold out.

Not only is the air less dense requiring less fuel to maintain proper fueling... but its also easier to move due to it being less dense.... (less pumping losses)

I have some 4inch kanaflex tube that i wanted to make a secondary intake tube to grab warm air from around the exhaust air (essentially make a lil 90* bend right out of the stock air box downward). Cus as you guys have found... when these motors suck cold air.. they DRINK fuel.

FYI, just did two round trips to mammoth and back during some pretty cold ambient temps (we are talking single digits)

warm air intake netted right around a 1mpg across the board over a 750ish mile round trip. During low ambient (0-20*F) intake temps were 10-15 deg above ambient. 30+*f ambient yielded intake temps 20 ish deg higher. Obviously this depended on load and speed as well.

Im gonna continue to run the warm air intake for a bit during this winter to see if i see a consistent increase in temps.

Remember the upside down snorkels on older cars? A tube would bring warm air up from around the exhaust headers into the air filter. Ahh, the good old days. Flooded carbs and all that.

Personally I wouldn't pull the intake hose off my Taco. I've had mice get in and as far as the air filter (but not through). Had to mouse-proof the intake nozzle in the front fender well with 1/4 inch mesh.

The mice also got as far as the cabin air filter in the HVAC. They get in via the bloody big hole cabin air intake by the wiper arm roots. More 1/4 inch screen, steel wool and Fluid Film to keep the rust away. New truck smell replaced by mouse sweat and whatever else they leave behind.

I had that happen on my last car even with everything connected up normally. Did the same thing as you - mesh. I don't think it would change my decision whether or not to rig up a WAI, it just might change where I put the mesh.

How long did those of you who tried this have to wait to see results? I have an ultra gauge and haven't seen any difference in mpg yet, but it's only been about 1/2 a tank so far. I'll give it 2 tanks before I switch back but I guess I was expecting a little more than nothing. The only difference I've noticed is my intake temps are definitely warmer and my power delivery is definitely softer.

I mean depending on how you drive (like I have a 35 min commute so my engine bay is quite warm for quite sometime) results will vary. I don't notice any real change in temps until ive been driving 10 mins or so. and if its really cold AIT go back down around ambient when I drive over 45 mph. you should see a slight increase on your first fill up. I usually get about 1 mpg less than my summer mileage, which by everyone elses standards is pretty acceptable, (also I hunt a lot during December and January so my driving habits are quite different, but deer season ends sunday so next week it will be all on road mileage and may go up a bit more) I got just under 19 on my last tank and just over 19 the tank before on 255/85 mud tires.

hmmmm interesting.. i may have to try this.. we go to winter fuel here in N-GA so i may see if this will improve my mileage.. its been in the 40s right now.. what would you say the ambient temp got you the best results? i know its all relative because of temp changes through out the day but average..
