Hi Guys I purchased Pop and Lock Power lock for the 2016+ Toyota Tacoma model #PL8535. I just finished installing it. The Box they sent me was for the 2007+ Tundra and the same for the instruction (same instructions online). As you can guess those are the wrong instructions. I talked to Pop and Lock Tech support. A got a copy of the instruction they had for a Toyota dealer. Just sharing what I found with you guys.

I wish the 2016 Tacoma came stock with the power lock tailgate. I love only having to use my smart key to lock and unlock everything.

Thanks, you saved my ***! They are still shipping with the wrong instructions. I used the instructions you posted and other than a few dumb moves on my part everything went fine.

I agree that this should have been standard equipment and I love how it operates!

    Thanks again!

I have installed my second Pop and Lock (2013 and 2016 Tacoma). Great lock and enjoy the security knowing I did not forget to lock my tailgate with a key.

Just curious. How loud is the locking mechanism on the tailgate. I read in another thread that it was quite loud.

I guess "loud" depends on the person. It is definitely audible, but I do not consider it loud. I suppose it can be compared to the sound of a deadbolt on a door.

Mine was pretty loud....you could hear the CLUNK every time it locked/unlocked. Also, it resonated the thin tailgate sheet metal. I fabricated a "housing" that went around the solenoid(out of ABS plastic) and covered it with Dynamat sound deadening. Cut the noise down 50%. Also, I opted to tap into the passenger door lock(instead of drivers side) so my tailgate isn't activating every time I need to get in the drivers door.

On an access cab would the passenger door lock wiring only be on the passenger side?
    I don't have a B pillar :)

Mesojdm, Got a question for you since you said youve wired in to the right side rather than going in to the driver side unlocking system.
Do you think its possible to get a left hand handle (with auto lock) and wire and install it on the right, so both will work automatically? Im guessing it can be done and you may just have to run some wiring from right to left.
This is one feature I think Toyota really fucked up on. Thanks

Did it come with the wire taps?

Awesome. Thank you. I lost my key to my tailgate and of course for our convenience they only give us one. I'm an idiot.

I'll definitely be wiring to the passenger door. The directions posted are a bit confusing:

Step 10: ....Remove the driver side kick panel.

Step 13: ....If the power lock functions properly reinstall the passenger side kick panel and tailgate access panel (reverse Step 10).
