So i am close to having everything bought for my truck, as soon as i get my mr marv box, i will be able to start installation. Heres my question. I plan to buy a dnx 9140 end of December (when i get my bonus check). But i was wondering if i could install a regular 1 dinn head unit to get me by until i get the new head unit? or am i better off waiting until i get my new head unit? i am not sure about the mounting of the dinns for example if you set it up for 1 dinn you have to use it as one dinn, if you set it up as a 2 dinn, etc

    Let me know please

With the metra kit, you can do either.

The scosche has 2 different kits. 1 for single, 1 for double din. The metra textured kit is the one to get. The Double din mounts to the existing metal cage for strength and good fitment and comes with a plastic bracket for a single din. The scosche kit is all plastic. It also scratches really easily.

In short if you get the metra kit, you can put in a single din now and a double din later without having to buy a different kit.

Here is a good shot of mine so you can see the texture

I already have the metra kit but i was curious if i could go ahead and install my single dinn until i get my 9140. I can start doing my mods even without the box, but i wasnt sure if it would hurt anything if i was to go from a single dinn to a double dinn. I know some of my older cars, once you snapped the tabs off for that car, you have to buy a new one for another car even though the kits are the same.

Nope. On my old gen 3 tacoma I had about 4 different head units in there during the time I had it and used the same metra kit. You will just have to rewire the headunit. But thats not biggie.

Ok so it doesnt hurt to swap a single dinn to a double dinn once the 9140 comes in? I have heard the sochee was a POS so thats why i went with the metra. So the only biggest thing would be having to rewire the plugs thats it? Because i really want to have my stero going for the holidays when i drive up to Maryland, and also xmas. Daughter wants the LCD screen up before the trip haha

I will not hurt a thing.

I had a single din, then a double din, then 2 single dins at once, then back to a double din all with the same kit.

You will just have to rewire the harness.

And I know all about the kids wanting the LCD screen. :)
