I was thinking of that autorotation break down from flight school too haha. All I was going to say was the TAF and lift vectors are the things that really change in an auto. Thanks for digging that up and posting it.

Also, speaking of the small AV community, a 64 crashed at campbell 1 day following the 64 that crashed in Korea, and a week before that, the 60 went down in tx. It was a rough "week" for aviation for sure, 8 deaths. 2 of the guys were from the unit I just left a month ago, flew xc with one of the guys from the boeing plant in AZ to KY. If youre in long enough, it will (unfortunately) hit close to home eventually.

Sure is a small community. EMS accidents happen way to frequently....

Another question about hovering when at altitude, like those news helicopters covering a story.

In the Boston area, the major news copters are almost all Eurocopters and some Bells. How do they maintain a non-drifting hover?... I would imagine the SAS/SCAS feature?

I remember this video from a while back. The pilot knew what was happening and got the skids off quick.

Yes, classic ground resonance. Either take off and let the blades sort themselves out, or try and shut it down while it tears itself apart!

So some horrible news, we lost a Tacoma brother in this crash.

I gave my stock headlights to Nate @FlightMedic178 a while back and had my dad take them with him when he was out working with the Mesa Police aviation unit. Nate couldn't make it over to pick them up, but his partner Chad drove over to meet my dad and get the lights.

My dad met Chad and they spoke for just a few minutes, about me and my Tacoma and how he was a lurker here on TW and that his buddy Nate was really into TW and his Tacoma too. They parted ways and shook hands.

As my dad was about to the hangar, Chad called him back and handed him a unit patch from his aircraft, which I have had stuck to the dash of my Tacoma since the day my dad brought it home.

Very sad for you Nate and all the family members as my dad said Chad seamed like a great guy and class act. We have lost a good one guys! Again, GOD SPEED Chad.

Just take a visual reference off the ground and hold it in position. It's not that difficult. Most those ENG helicopters tend to orbit though.

Yeah it happens quick. Got it a couple of times in a Schweizer, just lifted off again and it settled itself. The cause was unequal pressure in the oleo dampers on the skids.

I'm a hawk driver out in CO, at 6000 feet, its easy to overspeed the rotors no matter what during autos, not sure about regaining low rotor because I'm not about that life.
