I've decided to spend a portion of my annual bonus specifically on a new upgrade for my truck. I'm thinking about either a over-cab roof rack or a new winch-capable bumper.
I currently have my RTT mounted over the camper shell on Thule bars so a roof rack would provide room for necessities like extra fuel storage, camping gear, maxtrax, etc.
A bumper would be an obvious upgrade from stock and provide the ability to move forward with a winch which I've been wanting to add for some time now.
I live in Wyoming so driving through snow & otherwise sketchy conditions is pretty normal for me so I'm kinda leaning towards a bumper in an effort to add a winch in the future.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Specifically which bumper or rack you would recommend. This money is burning a hole in my pocket pretty quickly....

I say it every time there is one of these threads, is your IRA fully funded for 2015 yet? Of the two I would go bumper. Roof racks on trucks look kind of goofy to me unless the entire rig is heavily set up for off road with bed racks and all. Would you actually carry stuff in it? Plus bumpers and winches are more useful IMO. Of the research I have done, the ARB bumpers seem to be well liked around here.

What's a bonus for if you're not gonna spend it on something you love to do?

    Oh, you'll see...

I totally agree with you, but we'll be talking mortgages, interest rates, and paying cash for everything in life before you know it...

I say roof rack, BTW. I think it has more utility. Just my two cents!

This is a Tacoma forum, not a retirement planning forum. Stock trucks are boring.

If I were you, I'd go with one of the hidden winch / minimalist bumpers with winch.

If/when I spend another grand on my truck, it will be on steel tubing to start the roll cage.
