    Hello all,
    Names Ross, long time Jeep owner, ready for something a little more comfortable and more spacious mainly. I'll be lurking around, soaking up some knowledge for some time before I make a purchase. Think I'm going to go with a 2nd Gen Tacoma with a 4.0l TRD Off-road package (which has lockers, and some other bells and whistles if I'm not mistaken??)
    I like the late model 1st Gens but I dont want an extremely high mileage truck, and that's all I've been able to find thus far. Anyway, if anyone can point me in a direction of some info on what the TRD Off-road packages come standard with I'd be great full. I read some about down hill assist, hill start assist, lockers all being standard on them but I'm still green when it comes to the Tacoma's.

    Depends on if you get an automatic or manual all trd off road have the locker but the manual comes with the clutch start kill switch so you can start the truck without clutch which helps on a slope and such others will be here shortly to help verify if I don't know what I'm talking about welcome to TW and upgrade sooner than later before the jeep gives you problems

    I just bought a '14 (Off Road)OR and love it. I bought the OR because I live out in the middle of no where and do a lot of hunting and fishing and with the lockers didn't want to have to worry about getting stuck (Not to say you cant get stuck haha) that and I liked the look. I wasn't a fan of the sport (long bed, fake hood scoop, rims but to each there own). My buddy has a TRD Sport and its pretty much the same truck as far a interior packages as far as I can tell.

    I've had the jeep for some time, she's solid, has her problems but it's just due to lack of proper maintenance by the PO. I've spent many an hour under it haha but you just can't beat the thing. She will probably end up being our short weekend trip vehicle and the Tacoma will be more geared toward our longer week long + camping trips we take every year. Thanks for the info

    Welcome :wave:
    OR = rear locker + A-trac (if 4WD).

    If you do get the trd off road just make sure it's 4x4 the 2x4 with a locker is almost as pointless as a hooker with no mouth

    So the sport is basically just a different look, minus the lockers? I love the fact that they come stock win lockers!! How are the ring gears in the Trucks, read a few threads about ppl breaking them just driving on the roads under normal conditions.

    Sport and off road are the exact same truck the sport comes with a scoop hood and no locker the off road comes with lockers and no scoop also can't get a long bed in the off road(which you don't want) you can get 4xr with locker with the off road you can't with a sport

    There are already numerous threads about '16 stopping in the middle of the highway. I would stay away for a while, its like anything brand new.... gotta work the bugs out

    Frame recalls? Saw some horror stories about that... Is there a way to tell if a truck has had the frame swap done on it? What years did it cover? Does Toyota still replace the frames on them if it hasn't already been done?

    So they have been using CV's for some years, guess they have it figured out. I've never had anything but solid Axle 4x4's so I have concerns about getting away from that.

    They got it figured out for the most part it's when you start lifting it and shit like that that messes up the cv angle and starts tearing boots
