So that is a mega-thread on leaf springs! Am I to understand I would add a donor leaf to my existing leaf pack?

 

Correct, add or replace leafs. You keep the Toyota spring hangers and main leaf.
My current pack is

How much lift did that give you? How did you cut the spring without the heat taking the temper out of the steel? I really want an 1-1.5" lift in the rear and maybe 2" in the front to bring it level(ish).

 

I really don't know. I started out with a handicap of weak springs and the ARB bumper on stock suspension. I'm sure I have numbers in my build thread but that's not from brand new stock, like yours.

Do the front and then make the rear to match. It's gonna take a little work but it's the best route imo.

 

I put an AAL in the rear and got 2" out of it in the rear. I put way too big of spacers in the front which have me nose high right now but I'm going to remedy that at our New Years mod day with the billys I have in the garage.

 

What brand AAL did you use? I assume you have less sag when loaded? I came from a dodge ram so this riding on the bumpstops with 800 lbs in the back is a joke! How do the bilstiens ride? I dont really understand how a shock can provide lift? I've lifted solid axles jeeps but im new to coilovers, pardon my ignorance.

 

Only the front provide lift, movable spring perch. The rear don't provide any. He's gonna use them to lower the front.
Regular AAL are just bandaids and won't help with load capacity for long.

 

Oh ok, that makes more sense. So the spring still supports the load of the truck. Perch just moves up or down on the shock body I assume to provide more or less lift as desired.

 

Correct, changes preload on the coil. Though not as many positions as this picture, same method.

 

Nice, would you recommend the Billies with my stock front coils and an AAL?

 

They are probably the smoothest of the budget shocks, OME being the other and more stiff. So depends on what your looking for but probably yes. Run Billies all around to get the same valving and ride front and back.

 

I've only had a heavy load (bed full of rocks to build a fire pit) once and it didn't sag all that bad but since I'm nose high already it looks worse than it is if it is a heavy load back there, or a full tank of gas. Once I get more level or even a little take it should look better when it's loaded down.

I think the leafs at just wheelers brand. I bought them off another member and can't find the thread with the pic to confirm. @Sandman614 do you remember?

Speaking of...do I need anything special to adjust the 5100? It's at 1.75 right now and I want it at 2.5 before we install.

Im in the same boat here so if I were to get the set up found below, is that all I would need to get close to a 3" lift? Would I still need an AAL with this kit as well?

Yes to the AAL because shocks don't lift the rear

There are a ton of people selling AALs on here too, that's how I got mine. Only cost like $12 to ship too. I bought the 5100s off a guy last week who also had some leafs but I didn't buy those. I don't know if he sold them or not yet
