Weeelllll, kinda. Dana only paid for a small fraction of what the recall has cost. Toyota also bought back or replaced frames on anything 95-05 and I don't think anyone paid up there. I would expect that if there is problems Toyota will cover it, they always have up to this point. Also the frames did change a bit, they aren't boxed all the way, they are C for some of it, like past the cat. That might be a more recent change though. Also I would be kinda surprised if Toyota didn't make them fix the problem because buying new frames for people isn't cheap. Trust me, if this problem is widespread in 09-15s in a few years they will do another buyback. Their reputation is what makes them Toyota, if they get a crap reputation they will be hanging out with Nissan.

Quick opinion ...they want to charge me $800 to fix my timing cover leak. Tech originally asked for $1200. I flat out said it's too much. Suggested $600 plus they give me a new timing chain.

So $800 is what they'll do, including parts and new timing chain. Is that a fair price???? I ain't doing this work myself.

No man, all they need to do is put new seal aroudn timing cover. Why they trying to sell you new timing chain ? Its a chain it does not go bad .
Timing guides maybe they could replace those.
So not sure what they tryign to sell you for $800.

Exactly... this would be what, the 3rd frame recall? It's toyota responsibility to make good on it, not the supplier. If they feel the problem exists in 2009+ vehicles, I would expect it to handled similarly to the other recalls. Buy back or frame replacement. I doubt very much they'll hang 2009+ owners out to dry.

looks like there was a tsb on it.. guessing you are out of warranty? might be a little leverage for a lower cost

Yea, out of warranty and had that conversation. Now they're offering to add a new water pump too for the $800.

Edit: After a call and some bitching we're at $700 now including water pump but no timing chain, which I don't need.

Doing spark plugs and a few hoses for parts cost only. Also having them install my Toytec lift kit (new shocks, springs and AAL) for free.

sounds like you are getting the full on engine pull frame swap. so much better than the engine in body swap.

Hello everyone, I'm new to Tacoma World and would like to say thanks, I've gotten a lot of good information from here.

I dropped my 2008 4 door, 4wd Tacoma of at the dealer last Tuesday for the rust inspection. They called me two days later and said my frame needs to be replaced and it would take 3 to 6 months to do it. They gave me a 2015 Tacoma 4 door, 4wd to use while the replacement is done. I've checked some other forums and people were posting that they were being charged up to $3,000.00 for replacing broken parts during the frame swap. Has anyone heard about this or the long time period to replace the frame ??????

if anything did need to be replaced, they should call you and ask about it first. the dealership i took my truck to called me as they were in the process of the swap and let me know i needed one extra part replaced, i think it was around $350. i had my truck looked at in April, frame came in in August, and i think they did the swap in a little less than 2 weesk.

    I'd say.

Update: Made a surprise visit to the dealer today. Had a chat with the service guy and the tech about the truck. Also asked to see the "broken" tail lights they found. Plastic mounting clips were broken in both lights! I said, "You broke it. You replace it." Not sure why they even had to remove the tail lights anyway? Then the service guys says to me, "You're getting a surprise bonus- a new radiator." Turns out they smashed it on one of the tool trays when they were lowering the lift. "I'm happy for the new radiator but I said, Brother that ain't no bonus." Like he's doing me a favor. Riiiight. :thumbsup:o_O Wonder if they would have said anything if I hadn't paid the surprise visit.

So far it's not too bad, all things considered. We'll see what happens next.

I'll have to talk to the rep and tell them to let me know before they start the swap. I just had the truck inspected 3 days before I dropped it off so anything that they find "broken" will be on them. Also I'll see if I can take some pictures of the truck before they start.
The way things have been going for me lately, I got a feeling this is going to be a nightmare.:fingerscrossed:

    +1... wtf is that about

additionally, make sure they're using Toyota OEM stuff for your radiator and taillights...not aftermarket

Don't get me started. I was assured they would keep it clean and running like new. Like I said it was a surprise visit and boy was I surprised!

The 3 to 6 months is the waiting time for the frame to get delivered to the stealership. Once they have it and schedule the job, I've seen them get replaced (my buddies truck) in as little as a few days.

Thats' a good loaner vehicle is right! My buddy drove a corolla around for 8 months! He was not happy!
