I had a Saiga 5.45 a few years ago and bought 7n6 when it was probably around that price...traded it for a Sig MK25.

I love the 7n6 caliber. You can even get Hornady v-max rounds for under .50/rd

Haha definitely something I don't want to do.

Probably won't carry one in the chamber until the gun feels like second nature.

Practice is key, man. I did a lot of drills, classes, and action shooting before I was 100% confident.

The only way to be comfortable carrying one in the chamber is by carrying like that. Even if it's just around your house or whatever. Practice at the range with one in the chamber so you are used to it. The only thing other than being negligent with your trigger finger you have to watch is holstering, make sure your shirt isn't sticking through when you put it away. I wouldn't carry with one not in the chamber.

I like my Star's half cock safety, which I use along with the regular safety. Very 1911ish.

Guns are pretty safe once you figure out the bullets come out the end with the hole in it.

I've been doing a lot of reading on different conceal carry setups and some people have complained about their firearm and holster combo being too big to conceal "comfortably".

I have a very healthy beer gut thank you.

No real opinion on trigger weight, as stated by someone else, if I'm drawing I plan on firing so weight doesn't matter. I do however have an opinion on modifying a carry weapon. Big no no. Had lots of talk with instructors, lawyers, and cops about this and the general consensus is that any modifications to action/trigger can be twisted when you go to court to make a fully justified defensive use of a weapon into some kind of "you were looking for an altercation just so you could shoot someone with your modified weapon that makes it easier to kill some poor innocent criminal who wasn't doing nothing but attacking people with a harmless knife".

I don't know if there is truly a "comfortable" conceal holster out there. My beer gut thinks "comfortable" is like there is nothing there at all...so...those of us with guts...have to get used to the feeling of something being there, which will happen over time, (like when I first started wearing a watch, or carrying a wallet) or, be confident enough to OC if legal. I'm looking in to getting a Crossbreed IWB for my Kimber...with the cost, I hope its comfy.

Just a tip, for anyone who like Crossbreed stuff, they have a seconds website that is like 50% off...with no discernible defects. Crossbreedseconds.com

I'm 6' and 175 lbs so not a "big" gut, but you get the point. Anyway, thanks for the advice. I've always wanted a .40 but I've read over and over that 9mm for concealed is the way to go. Yes, it doesn't have the stopping power of a .40 or a .45, but typically a 9mm magazine carries more rounds than the latter.

Any thoughts on this? I'm not worried about price difference in rounds.

Also, I personally think OC is actually much more uncomfortable, as the who rig is literally hanging off of me. It gets in the way while getting in and out of the vehicle, and fastening my seatbelt, it snags my shirts, and generally is just a hassle. I will typically only OC out in the woods...or on my property. When I CC, I have noticed that doing the normal daily activities mentioned above are much less cumbersome.

My opinion on this is more of, any well placed round has all the stopping power you need.

I am perfectly comfortable in carrying a .45acp for my primary, but have no issues carrying even a .22 for a back up. If the bad guy sticks around after hearing the bang from a 9mm, 40cal, or .45, it may be advantageous for use of a .22 so that he may not know where the fire is coming from...lol.

Also, with the advancements in ballistics these days, a 9mm will spread out pretty good these days. Same with a 380.

There was a video done by a ballistics guru for the RIP ammo. He actually recreated the same damage with two rounds of .22lr.

My suggestion, carry what you are most accurate / comfortable with shooting. If that is 40 cal....carry it. If it is .357....carry that. Your confidence, and comfort is key in this area.

    EDIT: I'm 6'3" 225lbs....so...

If that is true, you should have no problem finding many cases where that occurred. I personally know someone who has defended his life with a modded colt python. He didn't get the rope. He didn't even get arrested. They took his story down at the scene, zipped up the body bag, and told him to go home. A few days later the judge talked to him, he reiterated what happened, and that was it. Clearly not every self defense situation is that cut and dried, but nobody even looked at his weapon.

More rounds>caliber assuming your carrying standard pistol. Unless your planning on carrying .500 magnum. For bears or something.

I wasn't saying it was guaranteed to cause an issue, but in today's climate where the "bad guy" is more and more being made out as a victim, I'd rather not help their case with any kind of technicality.
