Our door shows a little light on either side right where it meets the tailgate, otherwise no leakage. We have had sustained 30-40mph winds with gusts over 60 right at the back of the truck, and so far 13+inches of rain that is challenging all seals, and if it leaks anywhere else it'll be going back.
That said, I also live an hour and a half from the installer, so need a bit more than a few drops after hurricane force winds and rains to get me motivated to make a trip for a 'fix' unless/until it is coming in from a window or under the bed seal.

First project with the new Taco. Those factory sport wheels in the vision boxes in between the wheel wells worked pretty well to set all this drywall on.

This is why I ended up going with a SnugTop. Years ago I rented a shell with a basic back window/hatch with the normal piano type hinge at the top. If it was raining and I had the back hatch open to get in the bed, it channeled all the water that hits the (open) rear hatch INTO the bed of your truck. Screw that. So for me, it had to be a shell with what they call an "all glass window" because those have a drip rail around them and when the door is open, the rain goes down that drip rail and not into the bed. However, with ARE, you can't get that type rear window and the windoors. I suppose that is because they assume you want all sleek looking windows and not a combo. SnugTop has the option of getting the Rebel or XtraVision, which have all glass rear hatches, with windoors, so that's where I ended up.

I'd be thankful if someone with the SnugTop XtraVision and someone with the Snugtop Rebel take pictures of the mounting clamps and how the bed meets the topper internally. I was under the impression the shells were essentially the same in basic structure, but I thought I saw a picture of the Rebel that showed a different clamp mechanism. I can't find that picture now and I'm wondering if I was just confused. I'm probably locked in on my Rebel, but I'm hoping it uses a conventional clamping style. I'm considering bolting it to the bed rails to keep the interior less "clampy".

Absolutely agree with you 100%. It was a very tough call. I really honestly was dead-set on a SnugTop, but got cold feet after that long thread I read through. And it was not a few people complaining, it was a LOT of people. That's too bad, because as you mentioned, with ARE it's either or, in regards to high-end or windoors, but with SnugTop you have the luxury of having both. I'm sure at some point I'll wish I had the windoors, but I have to say, I am really liking the "sleekness" of the ARE Z.

I had a Snugtop Rebel on my 2014. I really liked it. It was mounted super secure, and I had zero leaks. I am not sure what I am going to go with on my 2016. Honestly, I want to see more pick of them all mounted before I decide.

Absolutely the very same bed insert no different from 2015 but the outer pannels have changed and caps usually released 2 or 3 months after the first trucks become available

Looks like the XtraVision or SuperSport. Really like how those look on the Tacoma and they are top of the line SnugTop, but still went with the ARE Z-Series which is their top of the line for hundreds less. As long as you get a good one and don't have a customer service issue you can't go wrong with any of the companies that make shells I guess, because none of theme are exempt to problems which I discovered after reading through a bunch of older threads.

One thing I am NOT liking though about the new SnugTops for the '16 Tacomas, and it is purely cosmetic, is the way the shell sits over the TRD logos. As superficial as that is, it still bothers me! I'm sure it's an easy fix if you just took he decals off, or got new ones and put them just a little lower.

Thanks for showing the mounting. I'm not a fan of the way it mounts, but it's probably very secure and less expensive to make that way. I don't like the way it blocks the cargo rail (forget what it's called). It doesn't look like the stock cleats will work at all. I was thinking of bolting mine down by drilling holes in the bed rails just so I could have full access to the cargo rails (since I wouldn't need clamps). It looks like that idea is out the window unless I'm willing to hack on that lip of the shell that hangs down into the bed.

Also, yes it makes the TRD sticker look bad. I guess I'll have to pull them off and go bare or get a nice custom one and mount it a bit lower.

I have a cargo divider and like the be able to move the cleats, my dealer said he'd trim the mounting lip to allow access to the accessory rail (on a super sport). I'll post pics after install here in a couple weeks. The lip is nearly 2", he thinks he will need to trim about an inch to allow for movement of the cleats and divider.

My SnugTop dealer says that they have no way of knowing when the shell is going to show up. They say they find out when it shows up on the truck. Does that match what other folks are hearing/heard?

Grrrr... I might need to have some words with my guys. Anyone else get an estimated ship date for their SnugTop shell?

10Key, how long ago did you order?

To the folks who have installed shells already: Did you do anything about the gap between the forward and side bed rails? My Snugtop Rebel is getting installed Wednesday and after talking to the dealer, I'm not convinced they are going to do anything about that gap. I was thinking I would just goober some black RTV to fill in the gap, but wondered if there was something more sophisticated that would work better.

I thought I remembered someone commenting on this before, but I was unable to find any posts on the subject. Perhaps my search-foo is sub-optimal this evening.

Anyone scaled their rig before and after they installed their cap? I'm curious how much weight these things add

I called Leer today about the 100xq topper that just came out, I asked for a photo of the topper on a Tacoma. Thought I would share it here. This is probably the one I will be getting. IMG_0071.jpg
