my caution is so that for some reason my truck doesn't get totaled somehow... this is my first tacoma, and i am really starting to love it, and wouldn't want anything to happen to it... unless somehow my bad luck gets me into a good position with the insurance company somehow so i can get a 15 DCLB 4x4! lol

Maybe this is a misunderstanding of what you're saying...but changing your oil every 3k will have no bearing on if your truck gets totaled...

I love my Tacoma too, but I'm not gonna spend hundreds extra a year to change the oil every 3k with the most expensive full synthetic I can find. The extra cost of that alone would negate any savings on future repairs.

I totally understand wanting to 'baby it', brother. And at the end of the day, you pay for your truck, so no one else's opinion matters.

However, just know that you're well past babying it and well into the wasting money stage. Even per the manufacturer's recommendations, you're still going way overboard.

I'll stop preaching now. Like I said, at the end of the day, I don't pay for your truck, so my opinion is crap. :)

the royal purple is an average cost oil, its not super high end priced... my total when all is said and done is around $80. which i am totally okay with.
i do mainly street driving, but when i get the chance, i go ham, i push my truck, and now with my mid travel installed, I've been going a lot harder...
maybe i will reconsider, and do it every 4K for a while..

Around here, RP is most expensive. Consider Walmart has Mobil1 for $25-$30...RP is very expensive to me. I do full synthetic oil changes on my GTO (6.5 Quarts) for about $40. 120k HARD miles, no issues.

i believe the royal purple i buy is like 49.99 for the 5 quart plus 9.99 for the single quart, plus around 12 for the filter

here is the write up i read on one of the TW threads http://www.animegame.com/cars/Oil Tests.pdf

Yeah, that would be the most expensive I can find. Especially a $12 filter...the best filters on the market run $6 or so at most.

I'm not trying to bag on you, I just hate to see people throw money away. I worked in automotive for 3 years while I was in college. The big name filters (K&N, RP, Mobil1) are usually significantly worse than the small brands that cost half as much. I've never seen any benefits of running RP over other quality synthetics.

In the long run, thats a lot of money you could put towards mods

it clearly reported that RP is one of the best leading synthetics in that write up i posted...

but i understand, and i will change my oil when i get to 105K(which will only be 4K b/w changes) then every 5K, i like mods, i shall listen, lol :D

If you lived near me, I'd offer to buy your used oil. I could easily get another 5K out of it. Don't you know that's also bad for the environment? Recycling used oil is not as easy as recycling aluminum or paper.

Early oil changes, besides been a waste of your money, which I don't care, has an negative impact to environment cause you are putting out more waste than necessary out there.!!

New term, Oil Nazi. Tons of professors in here. Yes, synthetic oil can go 10k mie, I change mine at 5k. Wasteful? I think not. Matters none to me what the Oil Nazi says, peace of mind, my truck.

Can go to 10k, but you change at 5k. That's literally the definition of wasteful.

However, you are correct - it's your truck. I don't pay for it, so my opinion is crap.

Your opinion is not crap, it's your opinion. I drive in deep sand a lot, then mud. So yeah, I change my oil a little early.

Wow didn't know this. I second the Toyota oversized oil filters. Been using them for years and I buy them a case at a time. M1 synthetic oil as well. I don't drive my truck as often anymore, maybe 8k a year. I change my oil twice a year just so I can sleep at night.
