I am heading up to Rangeley this weekend...

I am pretty familiar with the area but I am looking for some cool new places to see and explore off the pavement. Not really looking to hike this trip just ride around and see what we see... I pretty much just want to keep my butt in my seat, see some cool stuff and get some dirt on my 4runner.

    Any suggestions?

A bunch of us were just on Crosstown Rd and Falls Rd (runs from Smalls Falls off of Rt 4 to Rt 17). Bemis Mtn Rd is always cool too

Edit: The dirt roads are iced up/hard packed in most places but once the afternoon sun hits them, they slick up ;)
Also, some heavy logging is being performed on Crosstown Rd during the weekdays.

Step 1: Find a logging road
    Step 2: Go nuts
Step 3: Bring a GPS, a map, or be REALLY good at remembering turns, or you might be out there a while, lol!

Is Crosstown still in good shape? It's been years since I've been on that side of Long Pond...

Yes, we were just on there Sunday. Again, some heavy logging is going on right now so the views have been opened up a bit.

Yeah, just saw your edit, haha! Derp.
I need to get back up to the Austins in the Bingham area this summer. I made plans a couple of times this summer to get up there, but something always came up and forced a cancel. Used to camp there every year, but I've gotten spotty with it over the last 5-6 years. Stupid 'life' getting in the way, lol.

Has anyone ever been up Bald Mountain up around Dedham ME? Nick Corson (originally from Camden I think) had pics a few years ago of his FJ up on the summit of this hill and said the trail was a good time. I have searched around and it really looks like it may just be a hiking trail now

Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with New England Off Road in Westbrook? They quoted what I think is a good price ($650) for new shocks (5100's) & installation on all 4 corners.

They once quoted me ~$1,700 to regear my old TJ. I haven't spoken with them since. I suppose your quote isn't terrible. But, they're pretty easy to install yourself.

I don't have the tools to do it myself. I could probably do rears though.

Walt, if you get those sliders we could install them at Tucker's in Winthrop ;)

Pics of the wheels. I can post them on the FJNE forum for you if you like.

Thanks, Jareb! But, I'm going to pass on these sliders. This particular model mounts to the cab, and not the frame. I'm looking for something a little more robust .

But, I'll certainly keep the offer in mind! I just might find some CBI's under the tree this year.
