Holy metric system Batman...!!!! This thing will kill threads...

 

I really feel like hills kill this truck in MPG. The other day I drove home really late and set the CC for 62 (about a 60 mile drive.) It about killed me to drive this the whole way home but I was getting 22.5 or so. Close to my house there are 2 large hills and at the top of the second hill I was at about 21. I have trouble driving those 2 hills without it going down to 4th and running like 3000 Rpm or more. Which in the truck sounds like you are racing. I got in the other day after my wife had driven it and it was like 22 something and I about waterboarded her to find out how she did that. In my wife's car watching the readout going up those hills carelessly I barely notice a change in MPG. I just need to stop thinking about it and just enjoy it, but it is hard to do.

Try doing those two hills at a higher speed. Vehicle makes more power at higher rpm and it might stay in fifth gear

 

Maybe a lighter foot would work... but then you said you had the cc on... WTF..?? Did she secretly shut off the CC and lightly use the Gas Pedal...?? She is evil if that's the case.. hehe

 

I drove about 50 miles through Angeles Forest Highway and Angeles Crest Highway. Constant Hills and twistys and then back down. We entered in at 21mpg tank average and exited to the freeway at 21.1mpg. When we got home it was 21.2mpg.

I was impressed that it ran at 1500 rpm up some hills while in S4 in fourth gear. My only complaint is the gap between 3rd and 4th is pretty tall. But I love it. The OR did well in the canyons

 

Well almost through two complete tanks of mostly highway, averaging around 20-22. Hills ream this v6 engine hard.

 

What is this app. Where do you get it?

 

It's an app on iOS (maybe Android) used to track gas mileage and several other useful vehicle fill up specifics. I update mine at every fill up.

There is no official android app. You have to use the mobile site or text message them with a special set up of code

I use acar for android. Looks like they got bought out by fuelly.

 

Lots of mileage numbers floating around. I'm curious as to whether Toyota calibrates the speedometers for the tire size or if you just get a standard setting. With 16, 17, 18 inch wheels and tires, there are some pretty large differences in tire circumference. I'm still on the stock 245 x 75r x 16. I plan to replace with either 2.65x70 or 75 x 16, so I know I'll either create an error or get closer to exact. Just not sure which. I know most vehicles as they come from the factory have their speedometers calibrated for the initial tire size.

 

Not true.

While the wheel size changes, the aspect ratio of the tire also change, which results in wheel/tire combinations that have almost the same circumference. Biggest difference is a negligible 0.4% in circumference, or 0.2 MPH at 60 MPH. Here is the diameter comparison:

SR/SR5 - P245/75R16 = 30.5"
TRD Sport - P265/65R17 = 30.6"
TRD Off Road - P265/70R16 = 30.6"
Limited - P265/60R18 = 30.5"​

I wonder if winterized gas has anything to do with the differences in numbers. I noticed a bunch of y'all are getting 21+ overall mpg are living in hotter climates. I have since buying my truck averaged 19.5, and am slowly getting lower mpg. But the temperature is also dropping. That's a clue.

 

When I was using a Samsung Galaxy S4, I bookmarked the Fuelly site to my phone's homepage. Not exactly an app but it opened directly to my Fuelly homepage when I clicked on the icon.

 

12.2L/100Km equals 19.28 MPG US or 23.15 MPG IMP not bad.

 

Was getting 14.1 in the beginning. Now I'm at 1250 miles and I'm getting 15.7. I hope to get 16 to 16.5 one day.

 

I find that trip computers are more accurate if you do not reset at every fill up.

 

I drove 120 miles home from the dealership today after picking up my new TRD OR AC and managed 18.3 mpgs according to the truck. I only have 130 miles on the truck so I know it is too early for any real numbers, but 18.3 sounds pretty good considering mountain roads and gaining over 5000 ft of elevation. I'd like to see what I get on flat roads, but there aren't really any around very close.
