 Smart move. I purchased my first Hi lift in the 70's and have used them a fair amount over the years. IIRC it was a bit over $100 for the Bogert base plate kit but well worth the peace of mind to me. And as steelhead said once you see it you can tell it is a quality build. The real trick is to try and not get in a situation where you need to use it. But if you do it is best to know how before hand, you're on the right track.

Keep the jack clean and lubed, when they sit around for awhile they tend to rust and lock up. Could always pour beer on it to help loosen it on the trail (done that) but it is a waste of good beer. Pissing on it instead isn't the best idea but does work, just saying.... And good luck. I smacked the tailgate on my FJ55 a bunch of times with a Hi Lift and it never had any damage close to what you ended up with. Amazing how thin the metal is on our rigs these days.

The new eBay tailgate arrived today. In primer.

I figured I'd take the time to swap all the parts from the old tailgate to the new one. Just to make sure it actually fit prior to Monstalining it.

    It actually fits pretty well.

Now, I'm going to rattle can the entire thing the closest grey I can find to the factory color. Then, Monstaline the outside.

    We'll see how this goes...

The whole tailgate? Not just a skin? Nice.

Yeah, I replaced the whole tailgate. $215 shipped. I don't know what it'd cost to have a new skin put on the old one, but I know it'd be more than that...

Wow, that's a great price. Drove the '12 Sport with a banged up tailgate, had I known I could've scored one for that price, I would have.

I ordered from them and used it to touch up some rock chips, did not match up very well. It's a lot darker than my factory metallic gray paint.

I have the little touch up pen / brush that the dealer sells. I'm happy with that for rock chips and such.

I'm not THAT worried about getting an exact match for the little bit of tailgate that'll be exposed when it's open anyway.

I'm just going to get some regular old dark Grey and call it good enough.

With the D-lift adapter, I can use the D-ring on the bumper. Unfortunately, the tire swinger took the spot for the D-ring on the passenger side. BUT, I'm getting sliders, so it'll all be good soon

I'm not CRAZY about the Body Armor bumper. It's beefy and all that, but there are better looking ones for sure.

But, I wanted a full size spare on a swing out. AND, I tow heavy often, so I wanted to retain the factory hitch. Couple that with the fact that I got both the bumper, and the swinger, for $730 shipped with free Prime 2 day shipping? No brainer for me.

Alright, I got a couple of coats of grey on tonight. Sunday, I'll Monstaline it and see what that looks like...

Looking good! Now get those sliders... I went with zero offset sliders and expanded metal for the dog and lateral slides into trees on icy trails with a slope. And it works better with the Hi Lift also although that was not a primary focus. The dog is sitting on top of the Hi Lift.

    Nice. Lucky dog!

    I went with these:
    http://www.marshallfabrication.com/#!product/prd1/3817862931/05-15-tacoma-dc-sb-ac-w-kickouts

I was going to go with Mobtown full bolt ons, BUT, I thought I had something big coming up and backed out...

Then, the big thing didn't happen. That, rightly so, put me at the end of the line for his sliders. Just didn't want to wait weeks to get them.

Then, I said to hell with it, and just ordered weld ons. I like the look of these Marshal Fab sliders. Looking forward to getting them on.

I made my dog a platform too. He's all grown up now, but this is the only pic I have:

One plus side to this incident, is that my tailgate will be debadged

My toolbox, on the other hand, just got badged:
