damn, turns out im being sent to dallas for training, but the flight only has a 30min layover in Houston.....

I won't fly through Houston without at least a 12 hour layover. Gotta make time to catch up with the crew.

 

That, and some unconventionally cooked Chapel Hill sausage, followed by main staples of steak and potatoes. F yeah!

 

In modding news, Lucario Runner and I did a compression test on the engine. Found the culprit. #3 cylinder is bad. Gauge bounces up to 90 psi then back down.

As he eloquently stated it, the 1GR is the yin to the Bimmer's yang. Since it's #3 cylinder is the ONLY cylinder which works...

 

Yeah, Im gonna make it down here at some point, it just might not be until after all the holidays

 

Pulled out the heads to inspect and clean last night. The set which came with Goldylocks. The driver side's mating surface was perfect. The bearing caps and cam recesses however, showed some wear due to low oil or loss of oil. The passenger head.....that one is in far worse shape.

I need to get some more pictures of the passenger side bearing caps. For now, these two pictures will give a representation of the shape it is in.





Fortunately, I've amassed a treasure chest' s worth of spare good heads. So going to swap out the valve springs and retainers and be good to go.

 

Man.. I never know what you're talking about but it fascinates the hell out of me.

 

In those pictures of the passenger head, that is the #1 cylinder. That deformation is due to extensive detonation. My determination is from to much timing advancement. As seen by the damage that the pistons and wrist pins suffered.

 

Here are the stress fractures on the pistons.

 

I'm happy to report that I completely understood all of that.

And I need to get you a new passenger mirror. I guess I'll have to run one out to you seeing how you've blown up everything.

 

Wanna bring some of those parts and all of that knowledge up to Idaho? I got the Taco in the garage and it's heated!! I've got a lot of room in the fridge for some beer I can supply too

 

^Oh damn! I like it! I've been contemplating walling off the furnace in the corner (Adding new exhaust/intake vents in the walla next to it) and then getting a more insulated garage door so I can heat the garage as well!

 

I'll let you guys borrow some of my heat...

I need some cold air!

I have an AC unit mounted in the wall of my garage to help cool it off plus the garage door is insulated... barely makes any difference in the summers here.

 

Well, I realized I've got a vent in the wall sharing the living room, So I can just cut in to the wall there and make the L into a T and have air going out both sides for garage and for entry way. Or I can just turn it around to feed the garage, since there's already 2 vents in that room. I am thinking I need to increase the CFM of my furnace though. Having to shut down vents around the house to feed the wifes office and baby's room is no bueno. Motor might be going out as well.

 

I won't be able to make it Brady, but Face-time is the next best thing! Cheers and beers!

At least you have all of that room. My garage is much smaller.

I just bought the engine like that. I always have a back-up plan though, and had a good idea of what I was getting into with that one anyway.
