I am thinking of jumping off of the BFG all terrain ship and boarding the Cooper Tires ship. I'm on my third set of BFG's. I've been reading good reviews of the Cooper AT-3 and that they perform better than the BFG A/T KO. But, the AT-3 doesn't have triple layer sidewall, which concerns me. I talked to a guy at work, who said he had friends that ran the AT-3's and they either got punctures or sliced up the sidewalls on rocks. So, I am considering either the S/T or the S/TMaxx and wondering how both of them perform compared to the AT-3.

I had both currently run the ST Maxx, the at3 is a great tire performs well in light off roading, even better on the roads, moves water like crazy, works great in the winter, the ST Maxx is very good off roading and has that armor tek sidewalls great on the roads and either choice would be a good one... Just depends on what you want your tires for ? Don't forget the STT is another great tire as well

AT3 in a C or E load range will be tough enough for most terrain. Just don't get P rated if you want strong sidewalls.

OK. I haven't read anywhere where people had problems with the sidewalls on the AT-3. So seems like I shouldn't worry about the sidewalls not being strong enough.

Any P rated tire has a pretty thin sidewall. Many use them without problem but I choose the resiliency of LT tires to avoid flats.

I'm still having a hard time deciding between the Maxx and the A/T 3, but, I'm leaning towards the Maxx.
What are the pros and cons of each? Hopefully, that will help me decide.

Ive had a set Of cooper AT3 LT265/75r16 for my tundra (R.I.P) and they were great for pretty much everything "but" mud. They were quite, smooth rode like a street tire. when I went air born with my tundra and totaled it the tires were the only thing good still on the truck along with the bilistein shocks

The at3 little better in snow and ice due to more siping, maxx better in mud and whatnot, at3 hardly any noise, maxx little bit but nothing like a mud tire... Borh move water on the road like crazy, can't go wrong with wither tire just depends on how much on road and off roading you do?

I have the ATP's and love them. Zero complaints.

While i've never had the at3 because to me they look very much like a car tire I have had the ST Maxx and currently have the S/T's. the maxx are a heavier tire due to added beef which will equal added strength. the maxx ride rougher but not bad, just felt solid. the only reason i have the ST now is because of an order error and i just decided to go with them since they were installed... anyway i am really happy with them, they ride great, area great in snow and wet driving conditions. off road they have been better than expected, not a full on mud tire in the mud though but otherwise very very happy with them. i would say they are the best of both worlds when it comes to overall drivability. in the past i even had cooper muds, this was at least 12yrs back though.. anyway, i am expecting that more of these tires are in my future.

My understanding, and I might be wrong, is the ATP's are a Discount Tire exclusive series.

No - the ATP is a Discount Tire model only. It combines a little of the ST or ST Maxx sidewall appearance, with the general performance of the AT3.

Just based on looks, I think the ATP looks a little more "aggressive" - at work, there is usually a silverado and a jeep I walk past every day, one has At3 and one has ATP, and I like the look of the ATP better.

I agree. The AT3 seems to be more of a street tire and the ATP leans more to the off road.

I think that looks don't have a ton to do with real performance. There are plenty of people that swear by the michelin LTX AT as a great off road/trail tire, even though it looks like it should be on a city bus. But that being said, I do like the "look" that a squared off side lug gives a tire, and the ATP does that a little better than the AT3.

Cooper Discoverer M/S on my Tundra. Google Cooper, Light truck tires

I live in the snow belt, and these tires are awesome.

Plus on ice the many, many sipes in each block, of thread; makes these the best ice tire, in this size of tire also.

I only use these during snow season, but wear seems to be great.

And quiet on the dry roads too; not like the big lug aggressive tires.

I've had several sets on different trucks and I am more than pleased.

I use the Cooper Weather-Master S/ T2, on a Subaru Forester; look almost Like the Discoverer M+S; but designed for passenger cars mostly. You can get away putting them on a small pick-up, but designed for cars. If you don't haul anything but your Axx.

BUT: You must decide what works for you. I actually use my trucks, not only a passenger "truck" or mall crawler. And those big lug, NOISY, tires do not work for me. So you have to find the tire and compound, thread design, to suit you.

ohh, the ATP tire isn't on Coopers website, plus I thought I read somewhere that the AT3 was going to replace the ATP. but I also read that about the S/T Maxx replacing the S/T.
