Messed around with long exposure tonight but I don't know where my tripod went so it was all freehand or steadying off of something.
I like the way this one turned out, there were a few streetlights around the dock beside the area where I took the shot so shutter time was only .8 seconds.
I wish the old dock was a little bit more in focus though.
    DSC_0031.jpg

This one was just too far a distance and too long of a shutter for freehand (2 seconds) but it made it look like the factory was on fire.

After 4 months away from the camera, I was finally recovered enough to pick up my camera long enough to get a set done for a magazine submission. Couple outtakes from the session. Hoping for a tearsheet sometime in 2016 from this set.

If you shoot Nikon get the Nikon one. 2.8 no sense in slower. It's worth it.

The Nikon 2.8 is what I'm looking for. When the new VR one came out prices dropped like hell on the old version. Even ones that were only a few months old. That will be my 2nd of the trinity lenses and hopefully the 14-24 to complete the set soon after.

thanks! it's been a grueling 5 months... i think not being able to shoot was more painful than the whole kidney failure/dialysis thing... hahaha

This low light stuff is fun.
I need to setup my camera timer though so my shots are a little bit steadier.

Yeah I know. It's rare I ever use the VR on any of the lenses I own. I think they just needed to do something to try to one up Canon since their's doesn't have it.

Couple obligatory x-mas photos. The Canon 50 and 10-18 are rad lenses to play around with.

    Great pictures!

@1MK Loving the first one. How did you make it look like the lights are shooting out on the first pic?

Here's a random hand-held shot I took while on the way home from the public library with my daughter.

    Thanks.

Set the shutter speed to 30 seconds and let the picture burn in for about 25 seconds, then slowly zoomed out. You can achieve the same effect on nearly anything with lights and contrast. IMG_8743.jpg

That is awesome, every once in a great while see that and always wondered how it was done.

My tripod is pretty lightweight for packing back into the woods. I see the need for a heavier weight one when things like this come up. But enjoy playing with what I got too. Still a work in progress but hey I have a warp speed Christmas tree! Thanks
