UPDATE #1 So far all they can tell me is that the fluid is differential oil and that the pinion seal may be the culprit. Toyota factory is requesting to look at the problems and determine the fix, which basically means that I am hosed and will not see my truck for awhile. Brand new 4X4 with a leaking rear diff. C'mon man!

Don't feel too bad. They had to replace my steering rack and power steering pump a week after I received my 16. It was leaking fluid inside the boot

416 miles in 5 WEEKS of driving, wow, must be nice to be able to drive so little. That's less than 4 days for me.

That sure sounds like a leaking pinion seal. If that is the case, that should be repaired pretty quick I would think. I've replaced one of those before on an old rusty pickup in my driveway in an afternoon. Would think a dealership with a lift could address it in a few hrs if they had the new seal.

How did you realize that you had a problem? Did you notice the level being lower in your reservoir?

agreed, however every issue with the 2016 Tacoma has to be reported to the Factory and the Factory must advise on the fix. Between that and ordering the parts they will likely have the pickup until the end of next week. Not the end of the world but disappointing to have a truck with 365 miles on it in the shop already.

Yeah, thanks. You feel my pain. Not exactly the legendary toyota reliability I thought I was buying. But these things happen

Yeah that is pretty crappy service if takes a week to fix a leaking pinion seal.

At 950 miles the dash gauge cluster back lighting went out while driving. Gauges and warning symbols all work and the blue night lighting still worlks with the headlights. Checked the 5 Amp fuse under the dash marked panel lights and it is good. Not worth a 45 mile trip to the dealer yet but it is disapointing.

Have 2000 miles on mine. Valve cover gasket is broke. Was little over half a quarter low on trans fluid and my driver seat bolts were loose. Took it to the dealer and called toyota corp. Going to be at least Dec 28 til they can get a valve cover gasket. The leak isn't very bad. My touchscreen shut off yesterday for 5 mins. Came back on and froze for another 2 minutes. I tried to put my truck in 4x4 and the green light kept flashing and you could hear the switch clicking over in the passenger area. Shut the truck off and turned it back on and the light was still flashing. It also keeps telling g me to check my charging system if I push the start button for acc mode. Any one else truck sound like a diesel? Mine ticks like a caterpillar lol

No issues yet, other than some rust spots already occurring on the frame. -_-

3K so far on the car, I did an oil change already, will probably order redline manual trans and gear oils and change all the fluids since by now everything should be broken in.

I'll keep an eye on my valve cover gasket. I guess I need to try to talk them into checking my trans fluid as well, it's only delayed a shift into drive from reverse once so far, so it may not be an issue.

I think the transmission needs to be in neutral or park in order to get it into 4wd? I can't remember the sequence and I've only done it once.. I haven't been able to successfully lock the rear diff, blinking light no matter what.

Your valve ticking like a diesel though, that's something that's definitely normal. The D4-S engine switches over to a valve cleaning mode, most often at warmer or extended idles. I wish I could find it but I read an article about it just the other day. Just rattles like a diesel when it enters the cleaning cycle.

I have the vibration/buzzing in floor and pedals like others.

Clutch pedal sticks when in sub zero temps. Dealer can't figure out why.

I've been driving mine everyday for 6 and a half weeks. I have 929 island/city/highway miles on it so far. Did some light off roading, tested out the locking rear diff, MTS on Mud and Sand, crawl control, all of which worked flawlessly. So far so good.

One issue I have is whenever I press on the brake pedal at low speeds, I hear a very faint squeak noise. I have to really pay attention in order to hear it. Not sure if that's normal or not. The brakes work great and I don't get any squeaks coming from the wheels themselves. The noise is only in the cabin.

Other than that, I'm loving this truck. I wish I had a longer drive to work everyday. 1.7 miles each way isn't enough! So I take mine out for "long" drives on the weekends

UPDATE #2 So they determined the pinion seal is bad, factory requests pics from tech when replacing seal. Unfortunately the seal is not a readily available part and it may take 4 days to get it to the dealer, which is closed 4 straight days for the holiday. So in theory it may take 10 days for the service center to complete the job. All that for 1 pinion seal. Nice work toyota! Merry flipping Christmas! I have contacted Toyota corporate and filed a parts delay claim in case that helps

Just got this warning today, first time I've ever turned on the "ignition mode." Manual says to take it in, hmm....

You may want to look at this thread. Check Charging System Warning Message

Mine does this, and at first it was a little alarming, til I figured it was just a message instead of a battery charge light.

Vehicles with Multi-Information Display would show a message since we don't have a Charging System Warning Light.
