I'm looking to buy a 16 Tacoma. I can't decide between the Sport dbl cab or the Off Road 2wd. Both are similar in price with similar pricing the way i built them. I don't really need off road but it comes with the JBL also no sunroof. How is the stock audio compared to the JBL? I really would like to have a sunroof & JBL.

I never checked one with stock audio but the JBL that I have is fantastic. I'm sure there are way better options out there but I'm also not an audiophile so anything is an upgrade to me.

You can only get JBL with the tech package which includes a sunroof.

JBL all the way. Unless you are planning on replacing your factory stereo I highly recommend the JBL system. My 2013 had a JBL and I loved it. My 2016 doesn't and I hate it and I am in the process of replacing everything except the head unit.

I have the stock system, I don't give a rat's ass about blasting the volume with a cleaner sound, the stock sound is fantastic, I never turn up the volume past halfway so the sounds are crisp and clean to my ears, I would in my younger years always replace the stock unit and drive around with it blasting so I can't fault anyone for doing it, I'm just over it.

One can never have too many light bars.
Sunroofs are pretty sweet. Other then that you can get a much better quality stereo with aftermarket parts for probably a quarter of the price.

Pretty much what everybody else said. JBL is much better than stock, but aftermarket is much better than JBL.

I have no issues with the JBL system. It sounds plenty good for a truck. It doesn't sound much worse than the Mark Levinson system that was in my 2014 IS 350 F-Sport. I won't be changing a thing with mine.

I never had any upgraded systems in any of my cars and the Tacoma stock system is the best I have had

Funny you say this as one of the first things I use to do when I was younger was replace the stock unit and add an amp. I remember getting yelled at many times as my parents could hear me coming from the music blasting at 3am.:D Now I could care less and can't stand pulling up next to the rice burners with so much base you feel like you're fillings are going to fall out...lol

The factory sub is mounted on the rear cab wall behind the passenger side rear seat. Unsure of it's size.

Stock system is very nice, JBL adds to it. I did not spend the money on the JBL, instead
spent about the same and put in JL Audio speakers, Alpine Amp & a JL sub and it's much
better in every way and I'm glad I went this route.

I have 2016 DCSB SR5 w/out the JBL option and recently replaced all the speakers with aftermarket JBL's (crutchfield had a killer black friday deal). To me the difference is huge. Keep in my mind I didn't install an amp or sub and the difference was still there and impressive. Some of the more hardcore audiophile guys preach you ALWAYS have to install amp and sub, but I don't think so. I noticed a huge change just in changing out the speakers. Also of note, when you see the stocks next to the aftermarkets, it's quite impressive the difference in quality, weight and appearance.

TL;DR- worth it to buy the truck without the JBL and upgrade it yourself.

Did you do the work yourself? Can you give some detail on the speakers that you got i.e. model number, ohm, size?

@mello03 I installed them myself, very straightforward. Shout out to @garyinok for helping me with instructions. I've attached a copy of my invoice. All the mounts and adapters (at least as far as I could tell) were the same on the 2016 as the 2015's, so while shopping on crutchfield I had my results filtered through "2015 Tacoma double cab, non-JBL).
