Again why I wanted to keep mine. It's a pretty solid platform and I've done a lot of stuff to it already.

I could never be comfortable with the BULLSHIT lower ball joint design of my 3rd gen 4R, which shares the same garbage design with the 1st Gen taco. A large reason i got rid of my 4Runner and stepped up to a 2nd Gen Tacoma. The power/drivetrain is superior in every way IMO after owning both.

@AaronArf ever been down to Gulches ORV? A big group is headed there in March, myself included, it would be awesome to see some of the VA guys there.

Didn't see this, just got back from Vacation. Really appreciate it, hope it was informative even with all of the banter.

If I were to build another truck with the intention of wheeling it, it'd be a first gen. I vote get a DD and leave it stock/mildly modified and go full out on the 1st gen!! Solid axle swap, skip the IFS mods and just jump straight into it.

    :amen:
    Do it!

Have not been to Gulches, I'd like to check it out for sure. I'm going to be moving to MD for another job soon so not sure what my schedule will be like but maybe I can make it.

I agree the lower control arm/ball joint adapter isn't ideal but that can be eliminated with a solid axle swap. :D

What's the main point of doing the body mount kit?

Less body movement (body roll, yes you do get body roll on the frame), resists body mount failure or sagging. Basically keeps the cab sitting level all the way around. After a while the rubber body mounts start to fatigue or sag, which can put the cab and bed out of alignment. I also experienced less vibration and the squeaking went away. Little bit of a pain in the ass to install, but well worth the money and effort. I only really needed to replace the radiator support pucks, but I figured do it all or not at all. Glad I did.

I don't think I have a need for this now but how much is it and what's the part number for a kit for our trucks?

Oh yeah thanks, I was thinking of the rubber pads of older trucks with steel beds

Pretty much the only one that I know of. Energy Suspension is the way to go for aftermarket performance poly bushings, They come in black or red so thats the difference your seeing in part numbers.

Yes it comes with Radiator mount bushings. Most guys are buying the universal Energy mounts for the rad support but these will accomplish the same thing, If I would have known I'd have just bought the full body mount kit from the start.
